The new Thomson Seat Clamp uses a carbon seat post friendly design with a Spherical bolt, washer and barrel nut which allows float on both sides of the slit giving better clamping force.

the thompson seat collar is a really nice bit of kit for bike,i have fitted to my mountain bike,which has dropper seat post,holds really well,no sign of post movement with hard riding. this is a really cool piece of understated quality kit,highly reccommend this for the job. 17 March 2013

Peerless! You might think that all seat collars are pretty much the same but think again! Milled from a solid billit of aluminium, the Thomson offering is light yet exceptionally strong and holds the post firm and true through even the roughest terrain. The collar has a small lip at the top and torque settings to ensure you don't damage you nice carbon fibre frame or seat post. You could buy a cheaper collar, but in my experience, it won't work as well or look as good. Does what it says on the tin but with style. Could be cheaper but if you don't mind paying a little extra for quality, this comes highly recommended. 15 March 2013

What size to me should be used?

I have a Thomson Elite 27.2 X 410 mm seat post. The outer diameter of the seat tube top area (measured under a current collar) is about a 31 mm (7005 Aluminium Frame, Felt RXC One XC Bike). Whether it means, what the size of 31.8 mm will be a correct choice?

Yeah the collar needs to be that little bit bigger than the frame. The 0.8mm gap will be easily pulled up by the allen bolt.

The seat collar size is determined by the external tube size under the clamp, you need to remove the post and clamp and measure across the gap.

Thomson seatpost clamp

Hi, i have a road bike with an outer seatpost diameter of 31.6mm which takes a 27.2mm post, which clamp would i require (31.8mm or a smaller one???)

The 31.8 is the one you want. It'll actually tighten up to well under the 31.6 diam.

The bigger size as the collar goes around the seat tube lip, not the seat post itself.

Answer:

It depends on the outside diameter of your frame. I have a steel frame which is very thin tubing so I got away with a 28.6mm collar for the 27.2 pin. I think however most people (with aluminium frames etc) would require at least the 29.8 or 31.8 to clear the outer diameter of the frame? Easy solution is to just measure it!

Clamp size

I have a Kona Kula Deluxe with a narrow 30.7mm seat clamp. 30.7 is what is engraved on the underside of the collar.

Please could you advise on a correct size replacement?

You can use this seat clamp but you could order a larger 2 bolt seatclamp if you are worried about showing some of the chipped paint under your existing clamp. You require a 34.9mm clamp for the Cayo frame.

The Crater Lake has a 31.8mm clamp size. The Thomson seat collar is alloy but has a intersecting nut inside the collar rather then threaded alloy on one side. It would be difficult to replace with a security screw
