Your chainset must fit onto your bottom bracket! There are currently four chainset/bottom bracket interfaces that you're likely to come across. If your bottom bracket is made by Shimano and it has splines, then you need an Octalink chainset. If your b/b is NOT made by Shimano and it has splines, it's almost certainly ISIS. There are a very few non-Shimano chainsets with Shimano Octalink interfaces so, to be sure, count the splines - ISIS has 9, Octalink has (surprise, surprise) 8. No matter which brand of b/b you have, if it has a square interface, it will require a traditional square taper chainset. If you have one of the new Hollowtech II systems, you will need to choose the exact chainset that matches your bottom bracket. Most MTB chainsets are now 9-speed compatible but these will work with an 8-speed system.

Lance uses 'em Not all pedals are equal. You can see this by placing a few different pedal brands against a flat surface. Some pedals are 'shorter' than others, meaning they are closer to the crank than others and your feet are closer together. This can be uncomfortable if you have big feet or if you pedal with your toes out. The Truative pedal washers sit on the threaded part of the pedal spindle and move the pedals further apart. Look Keo pedals are the only brand I know of which are actually designed with a longer threaded part of the spindle so you can safely use washers to add 2 mm to the pedal width. The Look website describes this so there are no warranty issues. A guy called Lance Armstrong uses a couple of pedal washers on his Look pedals on the right side. Another reason for using these washers is that they protect carbon cranks from the metal pedal. 27 July 2010

Save your expensive crank arms Simple item,but works well. Saves damaging your new cranks arms when screwing in pedals. Wish I had used before, also makes it easier to undo pedals becoause they don't gouge into the crank arms. Not cheap for a couple of washers , but I think money well spent. 26 May 2010

Does what it says. As the other review said a little pricey for two washers but otherwise no complaints. I guess you could take a trip to the hardware store but in some ways it's easier just to get it sent to you :) 20 April 2010

Yes they can, but as far as I know only LOOK pedals are designed for this (and have 2mm longer spindles) I assume you could do it for others but it would not be what they are designed for.

These washers are 1mm thick and are used only for preventing damage to your crank arm when fitting pedals. We would not recommend using these to adjust Q-Factor.
