- No. Of Chainrings: Double
The oversized chainrings are CNC machined from 6mm 7075 aluminium blanks - 2mm thicker than the competition. Unparalleled stiffness is delivered by an increased Bolt Circle Diameter (BCD) and a two-piece insert-molded carbon composite construction.
The XX Crank geometry provides a narrow 156mm Q factor, efficient chainline, and beveled crank arms to maximize clearance. It's pure science in action.
XX Chainrings: The concept was simple: create a geometry that allows each chainring to be divided into equal segments, much like a pie. Then, perfect the up and downshift timing for one segment and repeat that for each of them.
However, making this idea an engineering reality was quite another thing. Prototype after prototype was built, ridden and analysed until we got it right. The outcome is lightning-fast and accurate front shifting, through an all-new, patented, mind-blowingperformance technology: X-Glide.
X-Glide: What Makes it so fast?
Traditional chainring geometry forces a compromise between up and down shift locations, none of which have ideal timing. In fact, half of the possible locations are skipped on each crank revolution. The more shift locations you try to incorporate, the worse the timing compromise will be: either your chain jams, causing chain suck, or the chain just fails to shift and runs across the top of the rings until it hits the next shift location.
Those days are over with X-Glide.
X-Glide is the common denominator that gives XX it's unmatched shifting performance. With the X-Glide, all four upshift locations are identical and can be picked up by any outer link. The result? Up and down shift locations have perfect timing for an almost instant shift - even under load!
This all new shifting experience is enhanced by the XX Front Derailleur and the XX 2x10 Front Shifter.
Designed together to work together.
About Chainsets
Your chainset must fit onto your bottom bracket! There are currently four chainset/bottom bracket interfaces that you're likely to come across. If your bottom bracket is made by Shimano and it has splines, then you need an Octalink chainset. If your b/b is NOT made by Shimano and it has splines, it's almost certainly ISIS. There are a very few non-Shimano chainsets with Shimano Octalink interfaces so, to be sure, count the splines - ISIS has 9, Octalink has (surprise, surprise) 8. No matter which brand of b/b you have, if it has a square interface, it will require a traditional square taper chainset. If you have one of the new Hollowtech II systems, you will need to choose the exact chainset that matches your bottom bracket. Most MTB chainsets are now 9-speed compatible but these will work with an 8-speed system.
