Awesomeness redefined When I started commuting by bike, I used my normal rucksack on my back. I quickly found that my shoulders were getting sore and my back incredibly sweaty. I started my search for other options and looked at panniers. I don't really like the look of them and thought that someone must have come up with a quick release ruck sack system. Eventually I came across Union 34 on a bike blog and thought that it was ideal but it looked and sounded like a US product, would it be available in the UK? Obviously it was. The seatpost is solid and weighty and feels like it can easily take any weight I throw at it. The bag is a breeze to attach and remove from the post. The included rainproof cover fits snugly and sealed the deal for me. Having that weight over the rear wheel isn't a big deal although I have to remember that its there when I'm moving the bike from the shed. Getting on and off the bike needs relearning because the route for your legs over the seat is gone, but that isn't a big deal. There is enough room in the bag for a Lenovo T410 laptop, a towel, pair of jeans, tshirt, underwear, shower gel and deodorant etc, and some bike spares like inner tube, puncture repair kit, a few tools. I could probably fit a spare pair of shoes at a push but I don't need to do that. For me, to be able to quickly slot it in place and detach it when I arrive is just brilliant. It took a couple of rides to feel secure that it wouldn't fall off with all that weight but I don't worry about it now. It is the perfect commuter bag system IMO. 05 December 2012

Excellent idea Living in the US and not finding anything local I had this shipped from the UK. I am not a fan of messenger bags or panniers and this seemed an ideal solution. Used it for my commute first time today, ten miles each way. Excellent design, easy to use and well made. I have nothing bad to say about this product, it works as designed fits nicely behind the saddle, I even had to use the rain cover on way home it again is well thought out and easy to use. Obviously just day one, I will post another review in a couple of months on how it is holding up on a daily commute on rough roads. 07 September 2012

Does this get in the way at all?

I can see that the bag sits vertically, so does this mean it gets in the way when you are trying to put your leg over to mount the bike?

Answer:

Yes, you have to relearn how you get on and off your bike and put your leg over the crossbar instead of the seat. It doesn't take long to adjust to it. The benefits of the bag more than outweight the slight change in behaviour required.
