Taking the city potholes and turning them on their heads, the Substance breaks over these crags & bumps in much the way a 29er would. In its deep purple finish, it’s got a look that gets better with a little bit of dirt and grime. But there is much more to the Substance than just an about-town commuter.
To power this bike not only involves you but a good drivetrain system. This year Verenti have spec'd up the substance with the new Shimano 105 11 speed. With its light action and smooth indexing allows you to push that little bit further but supply you with the confidence and the reliability that Shimano offer with their products. The 105 shifters have the same dual control setup and cable routing as the top end groupsets. Shifting is precise and consistent, right the way through the 11 speed cassette. With its two piece hollow axle design, the Hollowtech II chainset is both lightweight and stiff. Mounting the large diameter bearings outboard of the bottom bracket shell also provides increased stiffness and bearing life.
To stop the Substance Verenti fitted a set of TRP Spyre cable actuated disc brakes with a 160mm rotors. Rather than most mechanical disc brakes which work on a single cam-ed piston the TRP works on a dual piston system, providing an even braking performance and maximum stopping power.
Finishing the Technique off is a collection of parts from Cosine. Using an Alloy 75mm reach bar, a 3D forged stem, Single bolt alloy 27.2mm seatpost and a Cosine road specific saddle. A great, light-weight finishing kit to top the Substance off.
Rest assured that each Verenti bike is fully built, tested and tuned by Wiggle's team of qualified bike mechanics to ensure your bike arrives in perfect condition. Find out which size fits you by clicking the size chart tab.
If an Ex Demo or Shop soiled bike is listed, then this bike has been used for demonstration / test ride purposes. There will be no structural damage to the bike, but it will have VERY minimal wear to the drivetrain and contact points, may have small scratches/marks on the bike and, although the bike has been cleaned, there could be evidence of road riding/dirt on the tyres and rest of bike Note: Manufacturer may reserve the right to change the specification of that listed or shown on this page.
Cyclocross bikes are similar to road bike, they are lightweight, with narrow tyres and drop handlebars. However, they also share characteristics with mountain bicycles in that they utilize knobby treaded tyres for traction, and cantilever style brakes for the clearance needed due to muddy conditions. They have to be lightweight because competitors need to carry their bicycle to overcome barriers or slopes too steep to climb in the saddle. The sight of competitors struggling up a muddy slope with bicycles on their shoulders is the classic image of the sport, although un-ridable sections are generally a very small fraction of the race distance. Cross bikes also make good winter bikes or commuters, their frames have plenty of clearance which allows for mudguards, while the upright angles make them agile around town, meaning you can hit the trails at the weekend and then fit some road tyres and commute on them during the week.
Cyclists are passionate about their sport and equally as passionate about the bikes they ride. In few sports do participants take such pride, interest and involvement in their equipment, but to a cyclist a bike is more than just the right tool for the job, it is an extension of them and reflects their individual personality. Those of us who have worked to create Verenti understand this. We're cyclists too...
The size chart below will get you on the right size bike. Experienced riders may also wish to refer to the geometry chart for more detail.
Getting the Right Fit
At Wiggle we measure each of our bikes to build accurate size charts for our customers. Our qualified team of mechanics then individually check each order, against measurements supplied by you, to ensure the size chosen is correct. Another reason you can have complete confidence when buying a bike from Wiggle!
If you are on the change over between sizes both options will fit. Racers and experienced riders would usually select a smaller size as this offers quicker handing. A larger bike offers more stability and is more suited to new and intermediate riders.
