Whether it’s for that bit of fun around town, as a sturdy commuter, as the weekend rambler or maybe as that entry level Cyclo-Cross for if you want to give something special a go.
Taking the city potholes and turning them on their heads, the Substance breaks over these crags & bumps in much the way a 29er would. In its battleship grey and black finish, it’s got a look that gets better with a little bit of dirt and grime. But there is much more to the Substance than just an about-town commuter.
Loaded from top to bottom with a full Shimano® Sora Groupset, you get the seamless shifting of the higher groups but at a cost that doesn’t break the budget. A Compact Sora Chainset and wide ratio cassette means the Substance should have all the gear options you’d need - wrapped up in one. The frame is made using Reynolds® 520 butted Chrome-Moly tubes to provide that classic steel ride-comfort and endurance at a competitive weight. Loaded with all the rack & guards mounts you would need, it also lends itself to long cycling holidays and touring around Europe. The front and rear Avid® disc brakes give you more than enough reassurance that you have the stopping power that you need whatever the weather.
With everything that this bike has and everything that you can do and enjoy on it… how could we call the Substance anything else?
'For a bike at this price, the overall spec is pretty impressive.' As reviewed by London Cyclist Magazine, Feb 2014. Click here for the full review.

Cyclocross bikes are similar to road bike, they are lightweight, with narrow tyres and drop handlebars. However, they also share characteristics with mountain bicycles in that they utilize knobby treaded tyres for traction, and cantilever style brakes for the clearance needed due to muddy conditions. They have to be lightweight because competitors need to carry their bicycle to overcome barriers or slopes too steep to climb in the saddle. The sight of competitors struggling up a muddy slope with bicycles on their shoulders is the classic image of the sport, although un-ridable sections are generally a very small fraction of the race distance. Cross bikes also make good winter bikes or commuters, their frames have plenty of clearance which allows for mudguards, while the upright angles make them agile around town, meaning you can hit the trails at the weekend and then fit some road tyres and commute on them during the week.
Cyclists are passionate about their sport and equally as passionate about the bikes they ride. In few sports do participants take such pride, interest and involvement in their equipment, but to a cyclist a bike is more than just the right tool for the job, it is an extension of them and reflects their individual personality. Those of us who have worked to create Verenti understand this. We're cyclists too...
The size chart below will get you on the right size bike. Experienced riders may also wish to refer to the geometry chart for more detail.
Getting the Right Fit
At Wiggle we measure each of our bikes to build accurate size charts for our customers. Our qualified team of mechanics then individually check each order, against measurements supplied by you, to ensure the size chosen is correct. Another reason you can have complete confidence when buying a bike from Wiggle!
If you are on the change over between sizes both options will fit. Racers and experienced riders would usually select a smaller size as this offers quicker handing. A larger bike offers more stability and is more suited to new and intermediate riders.
