Just purchased a pair of these tyres and they do not have an arrow to show the rotation direction. Can anyone advise which way to fit them? Thanks

Answer:
With the bike upright, the point of the V of the tread should point forward so that when it touches the floor it would push any water outwards from the point when the tyre touches the floor.

Look at the tread pattern.... its like an arrow. When looking down at the top of the tyre, note which way the "arrow" is pointing. That is the direction of rotation.

Answer:
As a general principle, I think tyres with treads should be fitted so that the grooves in the tread will tend to channel water away from the centre of the tyre at the point of road contact. A little bit of careful thought should indicate which way round will achieve this.

A tyre inside which you fit a tube. The tyre has a bead which holds onto the edge of the wheel rim. As opposed to a tubular rim where there is no edge to hang on to and thus no bead on the tubular tyre.

Answer:
The term clinch means to squeeze, grip, hug or clamp. This relates to the way the tyre resists being forced off the rim due to the air pressure within the tyre. The two bases of the tyre, where they fit into the rim, have bead edges. When the tyre is inflated these beads are pushed into mating groves in the rim. This interlocking feature allows the rim to clinch the tyre and that is why they are called clinchers.

clinchers are tyres that needs an inner tube. This is common amongst road bike users. clinchers can be put on tubeless wheels but will still need an inner tube.

Answer:
According to ETRTO(The European Tyre and Rim Technical
Organisation) , the minimum width of the tire is 1.4 times the width of the rim.
18.4 × 1.4 = 25.76
700X23 is too narrow for your rim.
700X28 fits your rim.

Just got these, and used them for the first time on my new carbon bike. I normally ride Bontrager Hardcase at 80-90 psi, but the Vittorias specify minimum 100. That makes them feel hard, IMO anyway. Can you run them softer or does that cause problems?

I don't know if you can run these softer as I have them at about 120psi and have found them to offer brilliant puncture protection and grip at that level. I would imagine as they say 100psi min that you couldn't run them lower safely.

It means they have a flexible bead (ie. the part that grips the rim when inflated) and are able to be folded for packaging (literally). Compared with wire bead tyres which cannot be folded.

Folding means the tyre does not have a wire bead or rim - it is made of kevlar instead so the whole tyre seems floppy compared to a cheaper harder tyre that always stays in its round shape.

Answer:
No solid/rigid wire bead reinforcing the tyre. Instead they have a kevlar or eqv. alternative.
The wire bead doesn't fold, these are the tyres hanging in a bike shop. The kevlar bead is flexible and so the tyres are folded and usually packaged in boxes.
Folding tyres are lighter but come at the increased cost incurred by the kevlar material.

Answer:
Literally the tyre can be folded to be packed away for a trip or in your ride bag.
The tyre walls are generally thinner to allow for the folding but still more than strong enough for regular use.
These Vittoria tyres come packed onto a piece of cardboard, folded to about 6 inches high.

Answer:
Folding means they have a Kevlar bead instead of steel. Sidewalls are pretty flexible too so the tyre can be flattened out. This means that they can be folded into a small space. Rubino Pros arrive in a box about 8" x 3"x3" if I remember correctly.

Answer:
As far as I'm aware, its the way in which its stored, although it can have a wire rim in it, it is flexible enough to be folded - you'll see this on ordering one, some people like to carry spare tyres around for some reason (Maybe if touring) so a folding tyre is of great benefit versus one that can't be folded.
