The Fortezza Senso Xtreme Weather competition tyre for extremely cold and wet weather conditions with low rolling resistance and outstanding grip even in wet and cold weather conditions thanks to newly developed XWS compound.
|Puncture Protection:||Vredestein Full Protection|
|Use:||Wet Cold Weather|
|Wheel Size:||700c (622)|
The specific tread and side wall compound guarantee the best grip and lowest rolling resistance in all weather conditions. The tread compound is highly wear-resistant and smooth running, while the softer compound across the tyre shoulder ensures optimal grip in all weather conditions.
Curve Control System
The special compounds used as part of the TriComp Technology give the tyres yet an other advantage. The tread and sidewalls of the tyres wear differently, so the tyre maintains its round shape for longer. Combined with the superb grip created by TriComp Technology these tyres handle fantastically when cornering meaning you can take bends faster even in the wet.
Tightly woven polyamide layer embedded in the "central overlap" of the casing around the full contour of the tyre ensuring that not only the tread is protected against punctures but the sidewalls too.
The casing of a tyre is constructed from a bead of armid threads and a fabric with rubber on both sides. The thread density of the fabric determines the quality of the tyre. This density is expressed in TPI (Threads Per Inch). A higher TPI means lower weight, greater comfort and flexibility, and lower rolling resistance.
These tyres are for racing style bikes that use clincher/hooked rims, these are the most common fitment and hook onto the rim and require an inner tube. There is a wide choice of tyres within this category and the right choice is important. Lighter tyres will accelerate quickly, but will be more prone to punctures so getting a balance is extremely important. If you require a tyre for all round use look for something with puncture protection, an average TPI(Threads Per Inch) and average weight. If you require a fast tyre and speed is the only thing that matters look for a low weight folding tyre with high TPI. If durability is your priority and speed is not so important look towards the puncture resistant tyres and consider going for a wider tyre, these will be less prone to punctures and offer a bit more comfort. For wet road conditions a triple compound or winter tyre is a good choice, these use a softer compound on the cornering surface to maximise grip.

The Vredestein Fortezza Senso Xtreme tyres bill themselves, as suggested in the name, as Xtreme (sorry) weather tyres - so perfect then, for three seasons of UK riding.
We had the 25mm versions in for testing, and threw ourselves out into the rain with aplomb at the first sightings of precipitation.
They originally replaced my commuting tyres, and therefore they had to put up with pretty crappy roads in all weathers, and the mix of lower pressures and great grip dealt with the very worst I could throw at them.
They have managed several thousand kilometres without any punctures nor slide-outs in the wet, despite me donning my old college volleyball knee-pads and seeing if I could lose the front wheel on fast roundabouts. In that respect they have totally won my confidence. Come rain or shine, they have provided comfortable riding, with smooth rolling and decent acceleration and while they are not the lightest tyre on the market, they don't seem to suffer because of the extra weight.
Tyre wear has been minimal, and while they have a goodly amount of cuts in them, nothing has got through, to cause late-night walks home. Vredestein have implanted their tightly woven polyamide layer not just in the centre strip, but across the whole tyre, ensuring that puncture resistance is increased across the whole tyre - including the sidewalls.
At £45, they are certainly not the cheapest option, but on the flip side if your time is more valuable riding than fixing punctures then they seem to be a much better proposition.
Not the cheapest option, but for puncture free, all-weather riding, a sensible one
