TriComp Technology: The tread compound is highly wear-resistant and smooth running, while the softer compound across the tyre shoulder ensures optimal grip in dry conditions.

Curve Control System: The curvature of a tyre determines its steering behaviour, which is particularly important in corners. The Curve Control System ensures that the tyre keeps its curved shape longer. Combined with the unique characteristics of the TriComp technology, this allows corners to be taken at higher speed, even in wet weather.

TPI Explained: The casing of a tyre is constructed from a bead of steel wire or armid threads and a fabric with rubber on both sides. The thread density of the fabric determines the quality of the tyre. This density is expressed in TPI )Threads Per Inch). A higher TPI means lower weight, greater comfort and flexibility, and lower rolling resistance. Vredestein has tyres available with a TPI between 24 and 290.

About Road Race Tyres

These tyres are for racing style bikes that use clincher/hooked rims, these are the most common fitment and hook onto the rim and require an inner tube. There is a wide choice of tyres within this category and the right choice is important. Lighter tyres will accelerate quickly, but will be more prone to punctures so getting a balance is extremely important. If you require a tyre for all round use look for something with puncture protection, an average TPI(Threads Per Inch) and average weight. If you require a fast tyre and speed is the only thing that matters look for a low weight folding tyre with high TPI. If durability is your priority and speed is not so important look towards the puncture resistant tyres and consider going for a wider tyre, these will be less prone to punctures and offer a bit more comfort. For wet road conditions a triple compound or winter tyre is a good choice, these use a softer compound on the cornering surface to maximise grip.

F1 of Tyres! I purchased these to replace my Continental Grand Prix Attack/Force Road Tyres. Don't get me wrong, those are superb tyres and I rate them very very highly but I like to experiment (with tyres) when the time comes. After a bit of research (big thanks to Wiggle reviewers too) I dropped onto the Vredestein Fortezza TriComp Slicks. Apart from anything else, I loved the fact that I could get these in a black/white combination to match my BMC Pro Machine, they look great. The performance of the tyre is superb, I'm confident on these in pretty much all conditions, which is more than can be said for the slicks I use for racing my motorbike, they really are condition specific! I use these tyres for all round training and competition, they are very fast, grippy and I like the 175psi max, although my current track pump is only managing around 150psi, after that the nozzle blows off, 150psi is plenty though and I don't find them any less comfortable than the Continentals, to be fair I don't really go for comfort so am probably not best to comment on that aspect, worth noting that these tyres have a minimum requirement of 115psi. Get out the seat and pull on those pedals and you will feel these tyres scrambling into action, I like that kind of feedback, it's what I'd look for in a good motorbike race tyre too, it keeps things fun and gives you a taste of what the pro's are experiencing, give em a go, they ARE worth ever penny! 04 June 2010

Superior grip and durability. I am sold on these tyres. Got over 4000 km and no flats. I check for cuts and glass every week and typically for a Conti I would find 2 new cuts a week. These tyres have none after 3 months. They also grip extremely well when on the edge. Fantastic for high speed corners. 10 February 2013

Not fit for purpose Bought these tyres on the basis of the previous reviews. In summary, they cannot cope with the poor state of British roads during this so called "summer" to date. My first outing saw 4 punctures, with one tyre being slashed so badly I had to throw it away. Second outing - a further puncture. They are probably great for riding on low rolling resistance European roads, but would not recommend for UK unless you aim to ride on the very smoothest of surfaces. 25 July 2012

Best tyres yet My search for the best tyres would appear over. Easy to fit and amazingly smooth to ride. I've been running on these tyres for the last four weeks on Surrey's appalling roads and have not noticed any nicks nor have I suffered (dare I mention it) any punctures. My daily commute to work is much more enjoyable and a little quicker. They roll easily and are comfortable. I fitted Vittoria latex inners at the same time and think they are a perfect partner for my Fortezzas. Can't recommend too highly. They are certainly worth the extra pennies. 12 October 2011
