Rated 4 out of 5 by from Better than expected Having never used panniers before, I have been pleasantly surprised. I wanted to get away from carrying a rucksack for my commutes due to the weight and fed up with a sweaty back. Panniers seemed the obvious option. These Alturas are a good size to carry everything from a full change of clothes and trainers - to lunch and a tablet etc. The clips were a little tricky to set up at first - but once you have found the correct positioning, they panniers are easy to mount. I have tested them in a downpour and found the waterproofing to be very good. Although the zip pockets on to did let in a bit of water. The single closure clip makes it easy to open/close should you need to quickly stop mid ride. Reflective detail is well place and the loops to hook on additional lights is a nice feature. I'm a bit curious as to why the hi-viz part sits underneath the hood - so its not visible when closed. Otherwise these a very good and great value.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Waterproof and easy to get on and off the bicycle These panniers are fine. I thought they might be larger, it's difficult to tell from a given capacity in litres and there was some confusion over whether each pannier was 36 litres or 18 litres (they are 18 litres each). I liked the bright yellow but was at a loss to understand why this is inside the panniers and therefore not visible when they are closed up. They would be more useful if they were bright yellow rather than black with no high-viz.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well designed and effective, reasonable price On a few months use, this two-pannier set are excellent general purpose panniers for commuting, shopping, carrying extra clothing layers and locks on days out, and so on. You'd probably want something a bit larger for touring. I'm still using some old Arran panniers made of similar fabric that I bought several years ago, so have no fears for their durability. This latest design has been improved, with a single large buckle rather than two small ones, and a more reliable system for securing the panniers to the rack once they are fitted. The range of adjustment should allow fitting to any modern rack, and the clips can handle different thicknesses of rack tubing. I can't say how waterproof the new panniers are yet - the old ones seemed to keep out light rain and spray OK. The panniers come with carrying handles and loops for a strap (not provided). They seem pretty light weight as well. I'd prefer it if they had a bit more reflective stuff at the back, but at least there is some.

Q & A

Isn't this product a pair of pannier bags? The £69.99 RRP is the Altura price for a pair. And the plural "panniers" suggests a pair.

I can confirm that these are sold as a pair and the volume is the total for both bags making them 18 litres per bag. I hope this helps
