Beautifully made jacket, but some mixed feelings
I love this jacket - super high quality, but i have some mixed feelings - its definitely not as warm as some i own (e.g. Giordana Silverline windslam), although a fair bit lighter and more form fitting. I don't run hot like many of the commentators here, and after experimentation, i wouldn't wear this below about 5 degs C, even with multiple base layers. I find my arms get a bit cold especially, as the strip of wind-proof material is quite narrow along the top of the arms. To be fair, Assos state it is designed for a 6-12 degree range, but i wear it with two base layers (including a merino wool one) even at the lower end of this range. If there's any real wind chill factor i find it tolerable, but not toasty (like the Giordana is) and it takes a while to warm up too, so the first few miles can be a bit of a shock to the system. I think at around 9-12 degs C, this is the perfect jacket (for me), and its 'okay' a little lower, but in the low single digits, i personally need something heavier/warmer, and now considering the next one up in the range for that purpose as my Giordana jacket is starting to wear out. So just a different perspective from someone who clearly runs a bit colder than some of the other reviewers here. I hasten to add, i'm no scenery-admiring plodder, so its not a question of not working up a glow on the bike! But I am on the slim side (67kgs at 5'7") so if you don't run hot and have a lot of natural insulation, like me, this one might not see you through the coldest UK winter weather. Other than that - fully recommended premium quality kit.

Very stylish and confortable, high quality.
I own several assos and other high end gear and this one my best jacket! On the cycling position, the "click" is made and you don't even feel it on your body. I live in Lisbon, Portugal and during winter, temperature variations follow a range between 3º C and 15º C. With a base layer you don't need anything more than this jacket. Stylish and very well engineered, you also stand out when having the coffee break during the rides.

Perfect for the Welsh winter
Given its stated temperature range, I wasn't sure whether this would be warm enough for winter in South Wales. I needn't have worried: with just a single winter base layer underneath, I've been comfortable down to -3.5C, and it copes well with temperatures up to 12C or so because it's so breathable. I tend to overheat easily, so others may find that it suits a different temperature range.
The fit, build quality and appearance of the jacket is superb: I'm 78Kg and 5'11, and the Medium is a perfect fit. As others have said, you won't want to wear it in the pub as it's too short and too tight across the shoulders when you're not on the bike.
The jacket is very lightweight for the warmth it provides. It's hard to imagine being more comfortable on a chilly winter's day.
It also seems robust. I fell on ice this morning and skidded on my back for 20m, but the jacket escaped completely unscathed.

the best windproof jersey
I will start with the only bad thing I have to say about this jacket - two of the rear pockets are zipped; I'd prefer non-zipped pockets as they are a pain to use.
Now onto the good points, and there are many. The fit is excellent - I'm a fat 6'2" 115kg and size TIR fits perfectly. The jackets is very lightweight and you easily forget you are wearing it. Breathability is amazing for a windproof. Typically windproofs' don't breath all that well and can get a bit sweaty - this is not the case with this one! I wear it with a single baselayer at about 8 degC, and with two baselayers down to 4 degC and below

Best Winter Assos Jacket Ever
If you are like me and have researched every winter jacket known, then stop now! I don't write many reviews about items I've bought but I felt I had to share this as I know just what a mind mixer it can be. This has got to be the best jacket I have ever owned. Have been using the jacket from 6 to 10 deg at the moment and it's perfect. I can see myself maybe wearing a thicker merino baselayer when temperature drops closer to freezing but I have no worries that this jacket will excel even then!
Have never felt too warm or too cold. I run hot and I have never felt saturated inside. My baselayer when I've returned home after training has only ever been slightly damp at the front but dry at the rear where this jacket has no wind proofing. It's expensive but you honestly won't be disappointed. Very well designed and basically vanishes once you are out on the bike. You just feel all wrapped up in a perfect micro climate of your own. Buy this jacket!!

Great quality, wind proofing not so great
I love Assos. Their product quality is great and usually their cycling garments do the job really well. However, this windproof jacket isn't fully windproof in the way that Gore makes windproof garments. It looks great, feels great and works on chilly, non-windy Spring / Autumn rides. However, when the chill wind comes out to play, I don my Gore-tex wind stopper base layer beneath this Assos jacket. Job done!

Great cycling jacket
Usual quality from Assos. The size is perfect when your in the riding position, so don't bother showing off the jacket down the pub.

This is the best winter Jacket I own. Comfortable, perfect fit, works superbly to keep me warm in its temperature range.
Usual high Assos quality in the materials and manufacture.
In relation to fit, I am slim build, 181cm tall and take a Large in everything Assos and find the fit perfect across the range for me.

Perfect jacket for cooler days
The jacket is as light as a long sleeve jersey but offers excellent wind protection and warmth in cooler autumn (and I dare say Spring when it comes) days. I am 5'8" and have a 38" chest so bought a small which is probably just about right although it does feel a little tight across the chest when off the bike. On the bike it feels just right. The collar is as high as most winter jackets which is perhaps unnecessary for spring/autumn although I can't say that I found this uncomfortable and I can always pull the zip down a little if necessary. As always with Assos the quality is great but this does come at a price.

Simply an awesome jacket ...just buy it!
Another superb offering from Assos. This jacket is amasing and so high quality, fits perfectly (im 6'2, or 189cm and weight 91kg) and bought an xlg.
Wear with base layers (ie to the temperature) and you will be pleasantly rewarded for your purchase!
First time out did 2km of climbing in it, on a chilly mountain morning, just lowering the zip on the stupid bits. Performed and was ...perfect.
Spend your money....... Will not find better.

Superb quality but very snug fit
Although it is very expensive, the jacket is thinner, warmer, more breathable and more water resistant than the other jackets I have. I really feel the cold but with 2 base layers on underneath this will keep me warm in 0-3C temperatures but does not overheat if the temperature peaks at 8-9C.
The fit is VERY slim-fit though. I am 5'11, weight 72kg (11 stone 3) and do not carry a lot of weight around the middle - i fit perfectly into a medium. I do not recommend these if you carry a bit of excess and if you are any taller than 6ft you will need a large.

Brilliant winter jacket, incredibly versatile
This is my favourite winter jacket - it is amazingly versatile working well anywhere between 3-4 degrees C with a winter base layer up to 10 degrees C with a thin base layer. It works well in wind and light rain, although it is not waterproof. It is very light and comfortable, fits well and keeps you warm around the neck, easy zip for ventilation on climbs. I have owned for 2 years and as good as new. If you had to take 1 jacket for winter, this is it.

Awesome jacket for 6-12 deg C
Have been very happy indeed with this jacket: the temperature range suggestions for these Assos products is spot on (I have fugu jacket and tights as well). This is superb with just a base layer from 6degC up to 11/12. The fit/ design and quality are superb: it is very comfortable, and performs. It also has a handy pocket on the right upper arm for a gel or two (not sure why this isn't also on the fugu jacket as its very helpful)

Top notch winter wear
This is simply the best winter jacket I've found for cool dry winter riding, better than a certain Swedish brands offerings - it keeps me warm enough for comfort but not sweating. the shape is spot on with nothing flapping about or letting cold air in. well worth the investment

Excellent cold weather outer layer
Wore this on a -4 ride this week with just a merino wool base layer and it maintained my temperature throughout. In fact, I slightly over heated on the biggest climb of the ride and had to unzip slightly. Despite it's low bulk and lack of thickness, this top is really warm.
I'm 5'10 and 40inch chest and a large fits me just right.
03 December 2012
This is the most amazing jacket I've ever used. The fit is amazing(I'm 185cm 80kg and use Large)
I ride in Norway. In temps around +5C I use a thin wool base layer underneath. In lower temps like - 5-10C I use a thin vest over the jacket just to get an extra layer of insulation.
I also carry an extra lightweight rain jacket in case I get rain.
All in all this jacket proved to me that when you buy Assos you do not just pay for the brand.. you acctually get super amazing quality garments.
Get one! You wont regret it!

Excellent first impressions
Finally a jacket with long enough arms :)
Great fit in the riding position, no flapping or noise. Excellent windproofness, superb body temp control. Stratagon light fabric (the black stuff) also repels water very well.
Review based on two 2 hour rides:
1) Evening ride, dry, temps 16-10 degrees C. Base layer Assos summer (short arm).
2) Morning ride in drizzle and rain. Base layer merino wool.

Difficult to get the right seize over internet
It is an excellent and beautiful product, but before you have found the right seize when you order over internet is not easy. The third time I found the right one. The XLG was to wide, the Large really to tight.

The quality of this jacket is outstanding. Looks great too.
It is tightly fitted and tailored to the cycling position. At first I thought it was too small, but, sit on the bike and it fits perfectly. Use the Assos size guide for a slim fit.
It is expensive (although I was lucky enough to get it at sale price) but you get what you pay for. Superb design and quality.

Amazing. How did Assos manage to make a jacket that works across such a large temp range with so little volume. A must buy for Assos fans. It does the job of 2 jackets so I'm not even sure it can be classed as that expensive.

Aerodynamic and great temperature control
The Assos iJ.HaBu5 Windproof jacket is, in the usual Assos manner, a great quality garment. It snugs the body to give a great aerodynamic fit. Layered with other Assos garments like the Early winter undergarment and the Zero Element vest, this jacket can keep you warm below its rated 6degC. A great quality garment!

assos ij.habu5 windproof jacket CRASH PROOF
This is one of my coolest peaces of clothing. The quality is outstanding, the fit is better than a taylored suit.
It keeps me at the perfect temperature riding at 4:30am in Australia, the tepm would be around 6-10 ded c.
I even had a small crash wearing it and the first response was to look at my jacket and assos bib to see the damage and there was none. My elbow was grazed but my jacket was undamaged to my delight.
It is the envey of all my riding friends, you do get what you pay for.....
It may not be the best if you are in freezing conditions but you sure will look the coolest rider!

This is unquestionably the best purchase I have made in Cycling apparel (that and my Assos T FI.Uno S5 Bib Shorts) Top quality, top fit and top Looker! Expensive-Not really as in life you have to invest in the best. NUF said.

The new Assos IJ.Habu5 is one of the most comfortable cycling jacket I have owned. The quality is second to non. This jacket made my Castelli winter jacket cheap by comparison. On top of that, it has many features like, phone/iPod holder on right top arms, sunglass holder on the left upper chest, zippered rear pockets, reflective logo in back, several layers of different types of fabrics, etc. It blocks wind in front and breathes in back. I used this jacket between 60-40deg F temp with a cycling jersey on at a medium pace. On-road and off-road. Like many Assos gear that I owned, this IJ.Habu5 simply disappeared! Sizing is on the small side of you live in US. I always choose the next biggest size. Fits perfect. No flapping at 21Mph or above. Just be prepared to pay for performance and good looks.

Fantastic jacket as well made and a good fit. Used it on a cold and windy day with only a early fall base layer and was toasty warm. Assos quality but only four stars given due to the price.
23 October 2010
the wind-proof panels are fairly resistant to light rain, but the coloured panels are a much thinner fleecy material, and definitely not water proof. I own other wind-proof jackets that are better if there is a risk of rain (Giordana silver line windslam is more versatile in that regard).
Hi, I am 96cm chest, so this suggest size small bang on. However, I am 174cm tall, which is in Medium size range. I am a short torso / long leg type person. Are the sleeves long enough to be suitable for me in size S?
Additional information about leica136 could not be loaded.
Im 189cm, 90kg and medium build. I bought an xlg which fits pretty good (not skin tight) so suggest a medium if you want a reasonably tight fitting given size. A large would still fit for a 'normal fit'
