The Campagnolo Zonda has become somewhat of a staple in the Campagnolo wheelset range. While it won't be seen under the bikes that will roll down the streets of Paris on the last stage of the Tour, it has become a victorious wheelset in other ways.

    Description

The completely redesigned rim for the Zonda takes its design inspiration from the growing trend that sees the use of increasingly wider tyres, with 25mm clinchers becoming the standard if not the new minimum sizing for road riding and racing. With this increased popularity of both 25mm and 28mm tyres, the wheel needs to be designed in a way to optimize the tyre/wheel interface.

The new wider C17 rim ensures a more efficient shape of the tire, improving cornering grip and safety while reducing aerodynamic drag and rolling resistance. A seemingly small increase in width offers a surprisingly different riding experience, one that is sure to leave any cyclist pleasantly convinced that this change is for the best.

The new C17 rim has been structurally optimized and ensures a surefooted grip on clincher tyres, as well as an even better braking, feel when compared with previous versions.

Campagnolo Zonda C17 Wheelset is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 60.
Rated 4 out of 5 by Pault from Great value wheels For the price these are light wheels and need very little maintenance

Rated 5 out of 5 by CdDubbs from Great value for the money I replaced an old set of non- aero 1986 Ambrosio rims laced to mid 90’s Campagnolo Chorus hubs with these wheels, and at first I was worried because my old wheels could keep up with almost anything, but were due to be relaced. Did a lot of research and landed on these as a good aluminum wheelset for the money that is more aero than what I had. I must say I am very pleased, I put them on and my average speed has increased by about 4 kmph without too much more effort. They spin up to speed quickly and provide a comfortable ride. I was worried about the lower spoke count because I am on the heavy side but so far they seem to be holding up well. Would definitely recommend these as a great aluminum wheelset for the price!

Rated 1 out of 5 by jbsbikes from Poor Construction With less than 500 miles on these wheels they need new internal bearings on the rear wheel. My bike (a Ritchey Breakaway) was making a creaking sort of noise and I thought BB or perhaps the joints where the bike joined. It turned out to be the rear wheel bearings identified my my local, trusted mechanic. I tried to track down the noise myself. I replaced the BB and torqued and re-torqued the Breakaway junctions. I replaced the seatpost. I replaced the saddle. Nothing worked so I took the bike to my local mechanic. He grabbed the wheel and pushed it side to side and the annoying noise occurred. He took the wheel to his bench, partially disassembled the hub and announced that the preload on the bearings was set incorrectly and that made for some play in the bearings. He removed one of the bearings and said it needed replacement and that it was likely that the others should be replaced. 500 miles and the wheel needs new bearings. That sucks. I live in the US so a return is probably out of the question.

    Q & A

    23mm tyres

Will these wheel hold 23mm tyres?
    Asked by: SteveD2
The C17's are designed to better accommodate a 25c and 28c tyre however the internal rim width has only increased by 2mm from 15mm to 17mm so 700 x 23c tyres would still fit without issue.

is rim tape is needed for Zonda ? What is better Fulcrum Racing 3 vs Campagnolo Zonda

    Asked by: tomwin
Yes you can use these wheels without rim tape. In regards to which is better, there is not much difference to be honest but if it were me then I would go for the Fulcrum Racing 3 as the parts are more easily available.

    Largest tooth cassette?

Could anyone tell me if there is any restriction on the largest cassette that could be fitted. i.e. on my current Shimano R501, s I think a 30 tooth is maximum and wondered if 11 - 32 or 11 - 34 would fit without causing any probems.
    Asked by: Mo1959
These cassettes will fit without any issues.

    Valve length.

Hi. I've just ordered a set of these but I can't find any spec which shows the valve length required for each wheel. Can you help please?
    Asked by: JohnnyBoyBiccy
I always opt for a 42mm valve with these wheels. It does give you a fair amount protruding. However I find this is required when using different pumps, especially some track pumps. Enjoy your wheels.
