Excellent headset at great price
This replaced a headset that had completed 8 years of service through all weathers. This was easy to fit, high quality and the upgrade was obvious from the start. Really happy with the result and the price!

Specialized 2015 Allez Elite
I bought these after the original bearings gave up the ghost and used the online chat to find the best option for my bike. I also check on Cane Creeks website for the size of the bearings.
While the bearings are just about true to size of the originals there is like others have experienced some very slight differences to the ones i have replaced. First off I ordered the tall which is about 5mm shorter than the standard so i have a mix and match for the top bearing cover. This would would be ok with an additional spacer or if you plan to cut the tube down.
While others have had to knock the headset cups out with the 2015 allez elite this isn't needed although for a true fit the crown race would have to be replaced as the new bottom bearing doesn't fit flush with the forks.
The only other fitment issue i had was the original green compression ring is not needed and the one supplied with the set is a must use. This is easy to pop out of the top bearing cover. The original ring will clamp too tight and will require a hammer to get it off (I unfortunately did this).
All in all this is a quality product but if you are expecting a true replacement then expect to replace the crown race to get everything to fit flush.
I plan to buy a bottom bearing cover to use over the 1-2mm gap at the bottom. But the headset tightens nicely with no noise or rattle when pulling on the bars side to side or rocking back and forth with the front break on.

fit on my specialised 2014 allez elite
managed to replace the poor specialised one with this but had to leave the old crown which didn't seem a problem and its still nice and smooth now so I'm happy

Good product
Ordered one of these to replace the original on my Felt Z25 (the rubber seal had given up and i was on a second set of bearings after approx 25,000 miles. . I went for the short version as I wanted to lower the front end. If you research intergrated head sets you'll find they aren't quite as good as a press fit one (if you need one you have no choice) ... why you ask? .. well it's nothing to do with the headset, its the fact that the bearing cup forms part of the head tube (o not part of the head set supplied), so any wear on the cup since the day you first purchased your bike , even if just a micron, can be felt if your a perfectionist. Overall this is a good bearing rpelacement, and the only movement in mine since replacement is ever so slight (most wouldn't notice) and that's when stationary, the front brake applied hard and the bike rocked to try to induce movement in the headset ... on a ride I've not noticed any play what so ever.
Trust this helps.

Fits my Specialized Sectuer - sort of
Picked this headset up to replace the one in my Specialized Secteur as this is the part the Cane Creek website identified for my model. I can confirm that it fits, but only with some adjustments.
The Mindset headset that comes as standard in Specialized bikes including the Secteur is an internal headset i.e. the bearings sit in an aluminium cup inside the frame. The Cane Creek part is an integral headset that fits directly into the frame, no cups involved. You will not fit this headset into your frame with the cups still in place, they reduce the internal diameter from 41mm to ~38mm. To install this headset you must first hammer out the cups and then the bearing will fit directly into the frame. In other words you are converting from an internal to an integral headset. This task requires some special tools and is a little tricky.
Secondly, when attaching the stem using only the parts provided I could not tighten the headset enough to reduce back and forwards wobble whilst still being able to steer. The problem is that removing the cups means the bearings sit too low in the frame and therefore do not reach the top cover no matter how tight. To resolve this issue I was forced to add a spacer on top of the bearing. Now when tightened the top cover presses down on the spacer which in turn presses into the bearing. When all is tightened it works like a charm and you would never know from looking that it is a bodge. However do keep in mind, if ordering to replace a Mindset it ain't just a pick out, drop in and tighten job. In retrospect, I'd have ordered an integral headset and saved myself the effort. Took the whole thing out for a ride this weekend and it was sweet.
The part itself is excellent quality, the sealed cartridge bearings look resilient and turn smoothly. Hopefully this review saves someone else the headache I experienced trying to figure out what the heck Specialized were playing at!

Doesn't quite fit allez elite 2012
Clearly a good product, however it doesn't quite fit allez elite 2012. The cane creek website is confident that it will, however the top bearing doesn't sit flush with the top of the frame - it stinks in about 5mm and stops the section above from engaging with it. I have bodged a fit with a spare spacer under the top of the bearing, however this may not work in the long term. Disappointing.

Replacement Headset
I bought this for my 2010 S. Allez, and despite the Cane creek website identifying this as a direct replacement it wasn't. The Bearings fell into the head tube, they locate on a tapered surface (and held in place once the stem bolt is tightened). The problem was the top cap located on the frame rather than the top bearing therefore could not be tightened without lots of play. Substituting the new top cap for the original one and using the original split collar between bearing and steerer tube worked perfectly. Headset is smooth and creak free. Not a major issue, but not quite a direct replacement.

Finally!
Trying out a few cheaper headsets but none really doing what it should, at least not on my frame. Here, though, smooth and great fit directly.

Fitted a 2011 Specialized Dolce
Bought this to replace the worn out original Specialized Mindset headset on my 2011 Specialized Dolce, following consultation with Cane Creek who confirmed it was the correct part.
You need to knock out all parts of the original "integrated" headset, including the shallow black cups that are pressed into the frame. Once out, the CC40 IS slotted in. The new sealed cartridge bearings sit lower in a Specialized frame than the original headset, and some reviews mention the need to pack it out with a 2-3mm spacer. Ensure you retain your original spacers, compression ring, top cover as you may need to utilise/swap in old parts. I tried lots of combinations of new/old bits as there was either too much movement, or too big a gap between the frame and top cover.
The combination that worked for me was to fit the CC40 IS, fit the new compression ring (it was deeper than the original - but remove it from the CC top cover), then fit the original top cover, plus original spacers.

Perfect fit
Needed a new part for my headset and being able to order just this small item saved me a fortune in buying a new headset. Well done wiggle.

Helpful staff
I had a slight query about bearing width and with instant e-mail help was pointed to the correct item. Free return of initial item wrongly ordered by me and correct fit of replacement - great service.

Great product!
Great head set, not the cheapest but the it has outstanding quality. Make sure you study your headset size before purchase! Plus is looks outstanding!

Good quality headset
Good quality, albeit not in the same league as Chris King, Hope, etc but not in the same price bracket either. Replaced headset on Specialized Tricross which I believe is the specialized own make mind-set which has non removable bearing races. There is a slightly bigger gap between the head tube and the fork crown now, otherwise no complaints.

Nice and simple
I got this to fit my Look 585 frame. It does the job really well and was simple to fit. The top assembly has an integral cuff that fits into the bearings and make fitting really simple, no need for a trip to the bike shoe here.

Good value, versatile and high performing headset
I've had 2 sets of Cane Creek 40 Series Integrated headsets on recent mtb's and have been happy with the performance of both. The integrated versions are a doddle to simply press into the frame cups - probably a 30 second job. I bought the Cane Creek 40's as they had very low stack height (9mm) so were useful in keeping the front of the bikes nice and low. Bearing life is decent but the sealing is not comparable to a Hope or Chris King headset - I seem to get 12-18 months use out of the Cane Creek bearings with the bike being used 3-4 times per week.

a bit awkward to fit but very good once on
having not fitted a headset before I did this with a friend of mine who has experience with this. It was a bit awkward to fit and get right (my Canyon needed an internal spacer to get the top fitting right) but once on it is very smooth and a huge difference over my old Tange one (which admittedly was quite worn anyway).

just the job
using cane creeks own web site I was able to determine the correct size of headset, not realizing there were so many different combination of sizes.2 minute job to fit, without tools!

Does it fit a Specialized 2010 Allez?
Well, yes and no. The race crown will sit about 3mm above the forks, which is not ideal. Removing the original crown race is problematic if you have not got a crown race remover...you can use a screwdriver and hammer but risk damaging the steering tube. The bearings fit well, but remember to remove the bearing cups, which are a pain if you have not got the correct tools (i.e bearing cup remover). I fitted the original compression ring, top bearing cone and housing too, which work better than those supplied here. This is mainly due to the original top cover having a tiny lip that fits onto the frame far better; the one supplied has no lip and would not sit correctly on the frame. So yes, you can replace your standard headset with (parts of) this headset, but it is a bit of a faff. My annoyance is directed more at Specialized for fitting such a poor quality item to the bike necessitating a change in the first place. Should do/could do much better.

Excellent product and swift delivery
I purchased this to replace the Mindset aheadset in my Specialised Allez. The Mindset was rubbish and well passed it's best.
Although I know my way around bikes I had my LBS fit the Cane Creek bearings to avoid accidentally damaging the steerer tube.
The result is excellent. Overall I am extremely happy with my new aheadset which has now covered several thousand miles.

quality product at a decent price.
Right, everybody knows cane creek headsets are good, theyve been around since the days of black and white tv and their consistent quality is well documented. The real reason ive come on here to review this product is for all the specialized allez owners who have been told that this 40 series is41 headset fits their bike but cant get any absolute confirmation as to whether this is true fact. Well I bought this to replace the horrendously bad standard headset, and i fitted the bottom runner, the bottom bearing and the top bearing, re-using the original specialized interior expander thingy and the original top cap and spacers. Apparently you can perform a modification with a 3mm interior spacer that lets you use the cane creek top cap (which is better quality), but it requires a bit of bodging and i didnt fancy it. I have done 150 miles on some pretty dodgy roads since i fitted this 3 weeks ago, and i havent had to touch it. Its way smoother than the original ever was, and the bearings and other parts i used fit my 2012 allez perfectly, so i have every confidence that this will work for every allez owner. Whether you want to research the top cap/ spacer mod and try it is up to you, but my bike works fine without doing that and it looks totally factory. hope this helps.

Fits a 2011 Specialized Allez Sport
I had an issue with my headset sticking and making a horrendous noise when I stood up to put the power down going uphill so I swapped it out for the Tall version of this. I have a 2011 Specialized Allez Sport and had heard all sorts of stories about how it was a nightmare to get bearings to fit or that I would have to take it to a Specialized dealer to get it done, I opted for the on-line Cane Creek headset finder and found the bearings I would require but still with a small amount of trepidation I took the plunge and ordered them. They arrived in good time and I set about fitting them. I was required to remove the old bearing cups before I could drop the new bearings in and this I did with a screwdriver and hammer, I would use a proper tool in future as it was very time consuming carefully chasing out the cups from the headtube so that I did not damage the frame as they do require a good whack to get them out. Once they were out I cleaned and greased the headtube then popped the bearings into place. The bottom race I was not so brave with and took the forks to my LBS where they put the new race on for £5, screwdrivers and carbon are never a good idea. I did have a small issue with the washer that was sent with the bearings i.e. it would not fit into the headtube but an email to Cane Creek informed me it was not necessary and was answered within 10 minutes of me sending it so fair play to them. With the bearings in and greased up it left a small 2mm gap at the top but this was taken up with the original washer so no real problem. The bike is now back to how it should be with no creaking and a smooth headset so I am more than pleased with the quality of the bearings as they are excellent, they don’t look too bad either, the only real downside is the price as they are relatively expensive but that is a minor gripe. I would definitely consider specifying them as a condition of sale for my next bike though to get them a bit cheaper.

Beautiful finish
Nicely engineered set of bearings that fitted well

Design failure!
No doubt Cane Creek makes excellent headset. But this particular model sucks big time. Fitting was very easy but somehow there is play between my carbon steerer and my frame (Orbea Opal). You have to tighten the top cap to eliminate the play but so much so you ended up with a very stiff or heavy stiction turning of the handlebar. You will not be able to ride your bike handsfree because the ha Dlebar doesnt turn freely. You must give a bit of effort to turn it.

Replacement bearing for CAAD9
My CAAD9 steering had been feeling notchy, and not amount of Greece and adjustment would fix it. It was difficult to work out which bearings would suit. Took a stab with this. I imagined I would have to replace the whole assembly, but I thought I would just try the bearing first. The lower bearing dropped straight in and the steering is now perfect, and I have another bearing if problems occur in the future. Very happy with an inexpensive fix with future proofing thrown in.

Perfect
Perfect fit for my 2010 trek 2.5. No adjustment needed at all.
Thoroughly recommended.

perfect
Recommend using the cane creek head set selecter from their web site, as it takes all guess earl out. after always having issues with the head set, this one just dropped in, adjusted to the correct toured settings, and that was it.

Precisely engineered
This is produced to very very low tolerance. this headset costs a bit, but is actually very much worth it. Very high quality and looks great on my bike. Very easy to install.
