Latex inner tubes: Used in all high end tubular thanks to their low rolling resistance. Thinner and more flexible than butyl tubes. The use in open tubulars increases comfort and lowers rolling resistance. Latex is also more resistant to punctures.

Description

On the other hand it is a porous material therefore it requires daily inflation.

Puncture protection is also greatly improved as latex extends and expands 7 to 8 times its original size, whereas butyl only about 1.5x meaning that latex is much, much more flexible and not immediately prone to punctures. Unlike the stiffer butyl, latex will first expand and wrap itself all around a protruding object and often isn’t successful puncturing through even after working itself all the way in the tyre.

The best performance and comfort combination is the latex inner tube with a handmade clincher, although the latex tube can also improve the ride of any other type of clincher.

Replacing the standard butyl inner tubes (even superlight ones) with the Challenge seamless latex inner tube is by far the most affordable way of improving the performance and overall feel of your bike.

Customer Reviews

Challenge SuperLite Cross Latex Cyclocross Tube is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 30.
Rated 4 out of 5 by mikep76 from Lightweight with great rolling characteristics Lightweight inner tubes with great rolling characteristics for use with Open Tubulars. The open tubular tyres can be a pig to get on and you can ruin a latex inner tube easily, the trick is to initially mount the tyre with a thick butyl inner tube, inflate to a decent pressure and leave overnight, this stretches and shapes the tyre. You then refit the tyre with the latex inner tube using a bit of talc as dry lube.

Rated 1 out of 5 by chrish62 from 8 miles - 2 blow outs - and who carry's 2 spares? Purchased alongside a nice pair of Challenge Chicane XS tyres for my cross winter bike. 8 miles from home fully on road and 2 explosive blow outs later and that was £31.68 up in smoke + a taxi fare home. Were very fiddly to fit and no doubt i've probably pinched or twisted them, despite trying very hard not to. Not for the amatuer - well not this one Will not be buying again and wouldn't reccomend.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Armstrongwashungouttodry7 from for pro mechanics After 25+ years changing tyres and tubes because of punctures and the Change of seasons etc I have finally been beaten by this tube, Good luck fitting one of these tubes without it puncturing (on 2 occasions) If you know how let me know.

Puncture kits

Can you use normal puncture repair kits on these tubes (e.g. Rema Tip Top Puncture Repair) or do you need special glue and patches?
