Description

The discreet coloured bead strip allows you to colour coordinate the tyre to match your bike perfectly without losing the BlackChili tread performance. The GP4000 S II is versatile enough for race wheels or training wheels.

Continental have also expanded the size range with an additional 28 mm version added. This provides improved grip in poor riding conditions, increased puncture protection and greater comfort. The proven aspects of the 4000 S II remain unchanged and handmade in Germany of course.

Vectran™ Breaker

Vectran is a synthetically manufactured high-tech fibre from a natural model. Like spider silk, Vectran is a liquid-crystalline polymer (LCP). Vectran is spun from melted liquid polymer Vectra and processed further to a multi-strand thread. Spider silk, like Vectran, has an enormous tear resistance at a very low weight – exactly the right properties to process into a premium Continental bike tyre as a puncture protection insert. A Vectran Breaker is lighter, more flexible and protects more effectively against cuts than the comparable nylon breaker. Vectran Breaker does not adversely affect the rolling resistance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by underpickled from My favorite road tire so far Super easy to mount compared to others I've tried, and they seem to be holding air great. On the road, these immediately felt more comfortable and smooth right away, and feel excellent in corners. To my surprise, they also weighed 50g less (each) than the 30mm tubeless tire I was coming from. Only have a hundred or so miles on them so far, so can't speak much to puncture protection, but that's so hard to be objective about anyway since there are so many factors.

Isn't this the same as the 4000s

This new 4000s II is said to be better because it now has a vectran breaker protection. However, the old 4000s has a vectran breaker protection as well so is there really any difference at all between the 2 tyres ?
Asked by: chariot
The 4000S II tyre is an evolution of the hugely successful GP 4000S. The construction and tread should remain faithful with fantastically low rolling resistance. However, the new tyre offers a wider range of colour and sizes, with both 650x23 and 700x28 sizes now offered.

23 front, 25 rear?

Hi, i have Mavic Cosmics with 52mm carbon rims. I currently have the 4000s 23 width front and rear but require a new rear. Would a 25 on the rear benefit?
Asked by: tomkells
I ran this on zipp 202 clincher rims for a while until my front tire wore out. No problem. I love the 25mm tires. I now use them on both front and back. Maybe if I was doing nothing but going up hills I would switch to 23mm just to save a few grams, but I find that I usually need to go down those hills too. And on the flat I think the 25mm are better all around. I think that the 25mm tires last longer as well. I currently have over 2600 miles on my front tire and think it could last another 2000 easily. The rear has 1900 miles and will easily go another 1000. No flats on either so far. I don't know about the Mavic's but the wider tire seems to work very well with the Zipp rims.

Tyre damage from stones

I have been using the Continental GP 4000S tyres for a couple of years. I have found the tyres are getting damaged very quickly from stones etc, this then follows onto lots of punctures. How are people finding these latest GP 4000 s II tyres?

sizing

Hi, I have shimano 501 wheels, what size tyre do I need to order for these? Thanks
Asked by: mike11119
Would recommend 23 or 25mm. 25mm would allow slightly more comfort; whereas 23 will save on weight.

Do you know if there is a difference in rolling resistance between the "reflex" and the "normal" versions?

Thank you.
Asked by: DrSlow
I can confirm there is no known difference in rolling resistances between the standard and reflex versions. The only difference is the reflex versions use the reflective pinstripes along the side sections of the tyres.
