Finally.....Reliability and Candy,Together at last
Over the last 6 years, I had become rather good at rebuilding eggbeaters, mallets, and candies.Unfortunately, all the hard earned experience will be going to waste with the purchase of the New 2011 Candy.
Gone is the woeful bushing on the inner race of the spindle, replaced with a vasty superior roller bearing.
The outer body is aluminium, which is much stronger than the old plastic wings.
The sealing from the elements is improved also.
It looks like the custom eggbeater SLs with Ti spindle are just going to have to stay in the bottom of the drawer full of old, and worn out parts accumulated over the years of rebuilding and replacing broken springs, bearings ,and of course, the famous eggbeater bushes !!
A big "hurrah" for Crank Bros FINALLY fixing the problems that all the eggbeater/candy users were aware of for all those years !!!!

Crank Brothers Candy3 pedals
Nice pedals - I normally run the egg beater pedals and on my new Hammer Head Thumper 130 they are a perfect match.
28 October 2015
Good all round pedals, small and light enough for xc and gives enough platform for trail and endure.

Reliable and solid
A good solid platform that is easy to get in and out of. Used the Egg Beaters before but the bigger platform helps when you can get clipped in straight away.

Ok for MTB but nothing amazing.
I came into MTB from road cycling, so I was used to using cycling shoes with cleats and not flat pedals.
These Candy 3's took a while to get used to clipping in as you can not adjust the tension, they initially felt much stiffer and difficult than my Look Keo road pedals. However you can just about use them as small flats until you've clipped in.
The good thing is the design of the Crank Bro pedals means they do not get clogged up with mud, as soon as you clip in the bars move apart and mud falls out. No reliability issues, I have not had any bearings go after 3 months.
The only bad thing is when climbing up single track hairpin bends on a big 29er, its very easy to fall over at a standstill !
I also have to keep checking one of the bolts on the cleats as it keeps on working loose under my shoe, when a cleat is loose its very hard to unclip, as when you rotate your foot the cleat stays still inside the pedal and your shoe just moves above it.
The colour anodising soon scratches off.
To conclude... They do the job if you must be clipped in, sometimes too well if you come to a sudden stop or the cleat works loose, but they are nothing spectacular and I'm not sure they're much better then rivals such as Shimano SPD.

Blue to match the hubs
This is a great commute pedal, as well as being a good off-road component. Clipping in and out is trivially easy. I've used Crank Brothers for years, just be aware if you switch that these don't use the same cleats as Shimano SPD.

Best Clicked in Peddles EVER !!!!
First got these for my Girlfriend for her road bike ,as she had so many bad experiences with not locating the peddle with other road bike cleated systems ....
Put these on and WAM !!! Like magic our relationship is far better , cause she can easily like never before connect with the peddle every single time , and even releases perfectly , and we were able to put her in MTB shoes so she can walk at a coffee shop ...
So if you want to save your relationship , you must get these ;-)

looks better put together than the previous candy model but doesn't come with a stainless axle as an option. Its easy to dismantle and repair and is well put together out of the box. Its done about 2000 miles so far with no issues though I have been reliably informed that the needle bearings can cause trouble so i will keep an eye on that.

Light, great looking
Too early to judge how robust these are.. just started using them. When I got them I found out there is a max. weight limit of 90kg. I am 94 kg, so I will test these to their limits!
So far, look great, really light pedals. I have started with the easy to clip in settings, even though I have used clipless pedals for more than10 years.

good but flawed design
Great pedals. easy to clip into and easy enough to release from when you know you're gonna come off.
They gave me the ability to power uphill when I got caught out in the wrong gear, they enabled me to power on the upstroke.
Only one annoying design flaw though. If you are tackiling some deep ruts, high roots or rocky terrain - they release your foot if the pedal is struck from beneath on a high rock or root for example.

Stable Cross and MTN Pedals
I was using Shimano SPD pedals before and wanted something with a bit more of a platform. These fit the bill perfectly. An added benefit was they are much easier to get in and out of without clipping out when you don;t want to. With the SPD it was a trade-off game. With these it's not.

sore feet no more
i have used these pedals for the first time on my 12hr solo ride and have no complants they clip in easy provided good pushing and pulling motion and teamed up with my sidi shoes my feet didnt hurt at all. these pedals look great too.

Quick delivery by Wiggle (as always). Easy to fit & look good. So far so good RE: no issues riding.

Crank Brothers system is awesome - wish they were cheaper.

These are my second pair of CB Candy pedals. The "mechanism" is so simple, and with no adjustment, they must be the easiest way to get yourself nailed to your pedals. The double sided entry makes clipping in a doddle compared to "road" pedals. Have done some hard fast climbs in these where could really feel the sole of the shoe being pulled on the up stroke, no accidental unclipping. The small cage means you can pedal okay unclipped if wearing flat shoes, or on tricky terrain. Just hope the revised bearings live up to the new extended warranty promise.

I've used Crank Bros Eggbeater pedals for years, now I have moved over to 'Candy' to give a better platform when clicked out for trick passages where I think I may need to put a foot down quickly.
They are great, although not quite as easy to click in to. They provide a great lightweight pedal with the usual super Crank Bros quality of materials and workmanship.

I use eggbeaters on my daily commuting Ridley X-Ride, but decided to put these on my Ridley Orion road bike. They are super comfortable and very easy to use. I guess many purists will question why I put MTB pedals on a road bike but the combination suits me.
One reason is that with 5 or 6 months of snow and ice here in Helsinki there is no snow build up on the pedals at all.

Candy 3's - my 2nd set.
These are my second set of Candy 3’s in 6 months and were purchased to go on a new bike.
Firstly, they look great. Maybe not the primary reason to choose a pedal … but it certainly makes a difference on the feel-good factor.
More importantly though; they are comfy, low profile and quick to clip in & out of, whilst keeping your feet securely positioned on quick rocky descents – no accidental disengagement. Essentially, they’re like the Crank Bros Eggbeater’s with a platform.
Plus, they are easy to re-grease and maintain, and the redesigned bearings run much smoother than the old bushings design.
What’s not so good?
Probably the fact that they need to be re-greased quite often as the seal is fairly basic. However, the first pair I purchased have been used a lot during that bad winter we’ve just had … so you’d expect a bit of maintenance.
Oh, and they’re quite expensive.
Overall: great pedals, although greatness comes at a price.

Better than before
This is my 6th set of Crank Brothers pedals and they are a definite improvement of the last generation Candy. The look and feel more solid, but time will tell if the needle bearings improve durability.

These are great! Very easy to clip into and out of even if you haven't used clips before. Nice amount of float so feels very natural and also good for your knees but may not suit those that want to feel tightly clipped in.
I've never really thought of pedals as special but from the moment you start opening the package this feels like a quality bit of kit and almost feels a shame to start putting your feet on them. I've read other reviews which suggested that these may not be very tough. What can I say, I'm a big chap and I put a huge amount of torque down both on road and especially off road and these just soak up the abuse from me and the terrain.
Make sure you get some CB shoes shields to prevent the Eggbeater bars from wearing a groove into the bottom of your shoes.

fantastic pedal easy to get out of in a crisis but rock solid when clipped in.lightweight and great value for money

Work of Art
I purchased these on the strength of my SL Eggbeaters after 15,000 k's without a service. These new ones have engineering upgrades which includes a stronger spindle, better seals and 2 bearings (roller and needle). They also spin smoother than my Eggbeaters too.
Fitting is straight forward and the clip in/out is the smoothest of all the pedals I've used. They will clip in with a forward push or backwards pull and I've never accidentally pulled out of them during riding but they will release in an emergency not like others that lock you in and destroy tendons and bones in a fall.
During long rides I have had no discomfort and riding in stop start traffic is the best due to that easy clip out/in.
Visually they look too good to use and the packaging they come in is excellent.
I would highly recommend these pedals.

Great pedal with excellent blue detailing which really compliments any bike. The pedals come with all the attachments you'd need and pretty comprehensive instructions. The pedals offer a smooth transition for those cyclists taking their first steps into the world of SPDs as you choose the angle of release, a feature i'm not sure other pedals offer but one which i can see helping build confidence with riders.
Not cheap and not particularly light but certanly worth investing in as they come with a 5 year warranty!
