Doesn't fit the Deda stem
I guess I didn't understand the spec - I bought it with a Deda stem only to discover they are incompatible.
(The stem is fine!)

Fit perfect - no issues
No problem install and the clamp on stem that fits on to this adapter fit perfectly as well. Doesn't even look like an adapter is being used.

Does an amazing job, allowing you to put a bigger stem for fatbar dropbars!

I've used this to update my 30 year old road bike with new bars and aero levers and it has done exactly that. Note that you will need to buy a suitable sized shim in order to fit the more modern style stems. It's worth an internet search for that as prices vary greatly for such a small item !

great for a rebuild
Used this item to rebuild my old gitane 531pro and upgrade the steering

Surprisingly, this Adaptor does not fit a Deda stem that accepts a 26mm bar. Other than that, the quality appears good but I returned it before use.
28 July 2015
very good and stiff adapter..if you want to change the old style quill stem to a ahead.
14 July 2015
with this adapter plus the shim my old bike is now ready to go
11 June 2015
Have upgraded both my older bikes that have 1" steerers and old type stem so I can use an ahead type. Apart from the versatility it enables quick dismantling if taking bike on a plane and also stiffens the front end particularly if you are using a 120/130 stem as I do. Improves the handling, stability and steering of any older bike.
Fitted on one bike and then rode the other with standard stem and was amazed how much it flexed so upgraded the other bike as well

Easy way to upgrade to modern technology
Easy and cheap way to replace a traditional stem. Don't forget to check, if you need adapters for the handlebar and stem you want to attach

Simple And Straight Forward
Easy to fit, so far after some 1000km all is good, no creaks or movement!

Good Quality Product
Good Quality Product....for the inexpensive price.

Great little invention,it allows you to convert a old quill stem on an old bike so you fit the new stem.

I was after a conversion from a threaded steerer tube to a 1 1/8 threadless stem for an older fashion winter road bike so I bought this. Maybe I didn't read the instructions but I thought that was what I was buying, a stem that went into an 1" steerer tube and gave you a 1 1/8" top for a stem to clamp onto! I had to buy a shim for it to work which was another cost, so that's the reason for the low score, however the quality of the product is as good as anything else.

You need a 28/25mm sleeve to make this fit standard stems

i ordered the adaptor but i had the idea it would be grey as the picture. now i have a black one and i can't do anything with it.
Otherwise the adaptor look strong.

Simple and effective.
Simple to install and gives you the advantages of using a modern stem and handlebar set up on a 1" steerer.

Excellent solid piece of kit
Bought this to convert an old road bike with a quill stem to a more up to date clamp on stem, looks really good, fits flush, feels very solidly built.
The only downside is that if your concerned about weight its perhaps a little heavier than the quill stem it replaced, but this is the only small criticism I could make of a very good product

Did the job perfectly
Wanted to switch over from an old fashioned looking quill stem to a more modern type and this adaptor did the job perfectly.
25 February 2014
Fit for purpose
Perfectly allows me to use an ahead stem on my old Cannondale 1" quill headset bike. Strong stable, confidence inspiring fit.

Well I have actually used this yet because to my surprise it is not compatible with the deda stem I bought to go with it. Nor does it seem compatible with any stem I've seen. Hence, as others have said you'll need to buy the shim to go with (bumping up it's price past the alternatives).
I didnt read the reviews first so it would have been nice to know that it wouldnt fit anything without a shim.
To further my disappointment, the only shim available to fix it is the thomson, which is not available for some time. What a pain. I just want to ride.
Now I'll have to order a shim elsewhere for almost as much as I paid for the adapter, and still wait for the international postage.
What a pain.
Otherwise it looks ok.

Great for older bikes to give you more stem option
Installed this on my 1990's era Giant road bike to be able to use a modern 1 1/8" 100mm 6deg stem which works better for me than the old quill stems.
The bets bit is that it comes with the shim to go from the 1" OD of the adapter to the 1 1/8" ID of the modern stems.
If you want more stem options on an older frames this is a good choice.

Worke fine, no problems.
Bought this to enable me to convert from quill to Ahead and has proved reliable and effective. Only problem I was confused about the O/S diameter and had to buy a spacer to pack the stem and enable me to use the 11/8 stem I bought.

Not bad, Not bad
Bought this for a new winter trainer bike as its got an old 1inch fork so a quill stem is all that would work. I personally think quill stems looks rubbish with modern group sets so this was the answer. It is certainly not light but it does the job as well as i can i suppose.
Just inserts like a normal quill stem and then bingo.

Works absolutely perfectly.
Great product, works perfectly on my two bikes with quill stems. Couldn't ask for a better product. One thing, it is heavy for the size, so I might suggest using this on a tourer instead of a road bike, for which a thread less conversion may be more appropriate.
N.B. you'll need a shim if you're using a 1 1/8th stem, I suggest Thomson.
16 May 2013
Great way to update an older bike
I bought this because I wanted to use wider bars, I found limited options for bars to fit old style quill stems.
It does its job well and while not sexy and blingy, it doesnt look cheap and nasty either. It does not extend far above the headset so keep this in mind when choosing
For most stems that fit it 1.1/8in steerers you will need the Thomson shim (1in to 1.1/8in)
13 February 2013
Great looking stem adapter. Simple to fit.
Dont forget to get a shim when you order this if you are using this for 1"1/8' stems.
23 September 2012
it does the job
it fits well, it does the job and it looks good (black version). For the price it is definitely a good buy.

I would like to use this Deda stem adapter with Deda Zero Stem 2 ( http://www.wiggle.com/deda-2014-zero-2-stem ). My question is that do I need to add stem spacers between the adapter and the stem like this ( http://www.wiggle.com/deda-carbon-spacers-small ) or can I use them without spacers?
Does this have a mechanism to tighten down on a threadless headset or is it only for use with threaded headsets ? I know the BBB adaptor has two bolts, one which tightens the expanding shim and then another one which tightens the cap down to load up a threadless headset.
I'm switching my threaded forks and headset to 1inch threadless forks and headset, only i need to extend the steerer tube, can I use this as a 1" steerer extender? will the top hat allow me to tighten the headset? Thanks
no, as this is essentially the "Quill" part of an old fashioned stem, it will not extend your steerer, nor tighten your headset bearing. It only holds itself in place by expanding inside the steerer tube.
