Description

This trainer is also compatible (with the addition of separately sold ANT+ or Bluetooth speed/cadence sensors) with four third-party software platforms to help and make your training session much more fun and realistic.

This trainer allows the bike to be supported by the classic 'Crono' frame with the rear pressed firmly against the roller thanks to the rider and bikes weight. The slight flexibility of the frame also reduces the pressure on the bike and simulates a more accurately feeling of riding on the road. The Crono Fluid is widely known as the most silent, smooth and easy to use trainer on the market.

Review from Cycling Plus

What the Elite lacks in robustness compared to price rivals like the Blackburn Tech Fluid it more than makes up for in styling and finesse.

If the Blackburn was a Hummer, the Elite is definitely a Ferrari. Okay, a turbo doesn't have to look good, but it can't hurt if it does.

Coming pre-assembled and folded, setup is a breeze and since there's no resistance adjustment or wires to worry about, you can just get on and ride.

Stability is good and it's remarkably quiet and vibration-free. Like the Blackburn, it uses a fluid resistance system that gets tougher the faster you go and you can add variety by using your gears.

However, the power curve seemed less steep and more progressive than the Blackburn, which is much more suited to the average rider. Spinning your legs off is far easier and there was more than enough top-end resistance for our tester.

Another plus point over the Blackburn is that you won't risk a hernia moving it, so it should prove popular as a portable 'back of the car' warm-up trainer for testers and 'crossers.

As with the Blackburn, if you have some power measurement technology on your bike then just add this to create a complete training package.

In conclusion...

Simple, smooth, stable and stylish - this makes for a great little no-frills turbo

Elite Crono Fluid ElastoGel Trainer is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 1108.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Timmtii from Superb Exelent home trainer, works well. Resistance is very good. I removed the stickers because they were loose.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Kevo62 from Not as good as last one I purchased one of these about 8 years ago and it was great value. Sadly it died so I bought another hoping it would be the same. This new model is very inferior, lots of plastic parts and the resistance is set alot lower. This means pedalling in the big ring and not being able to stand up out of saddle when my nether regions get a little numb. Pretty disappointed.

Rated 3 out of 5 by OOPro from A cheap option for limited budgets This trainer, despite being very cheap does its job well. Basic but durable. A bit too noisy, but very affordable

Rated 5 out of 5 by Rupert500 from First turbo trainer My first turbo trainer, brought to keep my fitness up over the winter so can't compare to any others but very well made, easy to set up and after hearing that trainers were supposed to be very noisy I couldn't believe how quiet it is. To get any better I'd guess you'd have to make the jump to direct drive or a expensive smart fluid.

Q & A

Does this model damage your tire?

I heard that some wind trainers can damage your tire and people were getting regular puntures.
Asked by: Gecko1118
It does wear your tires but after lots of winter miles mine are still fine so I don't think its worse than usual wear and tear on the roads.

Is it normal for the bike to sit "off-centre"?

Just received my Crono, but can't seem to get the bike to sit dead-on centre on the roller, it's sitting to the right. I've tried moving the unit as far right as possible in order to try to centre it, but to no avail. Just wondering if it's normal, or is something amiss? Is there something I can/need to do to the bike? Thanks in advance.
Asked by: Rothkored
Mine is also off centre. As it clamps in from one side, the resting place of the tyre depends on the dimension between the rear fork nuts, which will differ for various bikes. It has not caused any issue so far.

If I buy an Elite Crono Fluid Elastogel Trainer do I need to buy anything else with for instance a block for the front wheel?

Asked by: ShirleySadler
Defo worth buying the elite front wheel block - makes for a comfortable riding position

Will this take a 26" mtb wheel ?

Asked by: neil80
I have used a MTB on this turbo, however you get a loud buzzing from the tyre so may wish to consider changing to a more road or turbo orientated tyre.

Please could you explain how this fits to the bike?

What tools are required to fit this? Does it require alterations to the bike at all and how long does fitting it take?
Asked by: richtea78
None, you simply reverse the bike into the trainer and clamp the hub using the tightening handle. The wheel then lowers onto the resistance unit and off you go. Less than a minute. Some professional teams use them to warm up before a time trial and then simply unhook and go racing!

Do I have to use the supplied skewer?

Asked by: takkieslapper
You can use your wheel skewers but as these are probably light weight it would be too easy to bend them when tightening the clamp so I wouldn't recommend it.

How much resistance do you get with this trainer

I just bought one, my 1st trainer. In my highest gear I would expect more resistance (so I would have to stand up). Although there is plenty of resistance for spinning at a high cadence, enough for a great workout, I'd like to know if it is normal to not have the high resistance levels with this product. Thanks
Asked by: Eddy
Sounds about the same as my experience, great workout but you are not going to simulate a standing climb with the trainer.

Can this trainer replicate hill climbing?

I would like to improve my ability to climb hills and was wondering if this trainer is worth getting for this kind of training or would I have to spend a lot more to get this kind of package.
Asked by: Petehand
Indoor trainers can improve your hill climbing. Just select a high gear and it will increase your strength / power for climbing. Likewise you can spin fast in a low gear to perfect cadence. The choice is yours

Can I use the provided skewer for normal road use?

I'd like to know if I can use the provided skewer for normal road cycling or if it is to be used only on the trainer. Thanks
Asked by: Josep2
I've used it a few times, when I've forgot to switch the skewer back, and it's been fine.
