Evoc's 285 litre bike travel bag gives maximum protection and minimal weight, making bike transport more convenient than ever.

    Description

The Bike Travel Bag is extremely easy to use. Simply remove the handlebar, pedals and wheels to be safely stowed, giving you the piece of mind you need when transporting your bike. For the two wheels, Evoc have added two seperate wheel compartments on either side featuring stabiliser rods over the tyres and side areas to prevent spokes and disc brakes from bending and causing you extra worry and cost. Plastic plates sit either side to stop the axles of each wheel from protruding through the material.

To secure your frame in place, a reinforced fork mount attaches the fork to a rigid foam block through two reinforced buckles. Additional strams securely lock your bike in place, preventing damage and movement throughout transit.

The Bike Travel Bag is the perfect professional case and has won multiple awards for its high quality design, whether on a bike, car or train, everything is stowed and packed away safely and securely. Additional features include an identity card pocket, T zipper and zipper lock for extra security.

    Review from road.cc

EVOC are specialists in the field of bicycle transport, and the voc 280L Bike Travel Bag is a case in point, with many great features only gained through experience.

Packing up and then lugging a bike around an airport is the part of going away with a bike everyone dreads. Anything that can improve the situation is worth a look in my eyes.

When buying a bike bag, you'll notice there are two types: soft shell and hard shell (well, and a few hybrids too). The EVOC is the former, able to fold down to the length of its rigid base (1300mm), making it perfect for stowing neatly under a bed when not in use. A soft shell also means it is relatively light. Coming in at 8.6kg, it saves around 3kg over most rigid plastic boxes.

The argument for whether soft or hard shell provides better protection is polarized: a hard shell may be more protected from hard outer knocks, but the bike is able to knock against the inside if not cushioned well. The EVOC is fairly well padded inside, with space along each side to stuff some lycra to help cushion any blows.

Often the problem with soft bags is that their lack of structure makes loading difficult and moving the bag around a bit like trying to get a drunk friend home. EVOC have developed structural rods, which slot in front, at rear and in wheel pockets, and act like bones, allowing the bag to maintain shape without a bike inside.

You could argue the EVOC is a hybrid bag because of these but either way, they work to great effect. A simple feature but one of the bag's best.

Packing the bag is extremely easy and quick but still results in one of the most securely packed bike bags that I've used. You start by inserting the structural rods. Next, the handlebars must be removed from the stem - the only dismantling of the bike required. A frame pad then wraps around the top-tube/down-tube joint - this has velcro straps, which the removed handlebars attach to. Our test included the optional road fork protection; this pads out the forks so that they are more secure in the included fork strapping (the strapping is designed to take larger mountain bike forks). You would be fine without, but it just helps to hold the bike better.

A large foam block sits between the chainstays, with a groove for the bottom bracket to sit. The block can to moved to sort of wedge the frame in place. Along with two straps at the chainstay, seat-tube, steerer and the fork, the bike is certainly battened down. All that is left is to pack the wheels with their skewers removed (and discs if you have them).

Wheels are stowed in side pockets on each side of the bag, rather than in the main compartment. This helps to avoid damage to your frame because of an ill placed cassette and also, they provide an element of side protection. You might think the wheels are exposed this way but the axles are going to be the impact point, with extra 'PE Board' cushioning featured at these points. The bike placement isn't by chance, EVOC have designed it such that the areas of the bike naturally designed to take stress are where any impacts will occur.

Three additional pockets are included: a clear A4 size and A5 size inside, then an outer A4 size side pocket. These are useful for the pedals and skewers that you've removed but also a few tools, gels, etc. As with all the zips on the bag, these are high quality jobs which inspire confidence. Outer zips are large double zippers, which have loops for padlocks.

In all, it took me under 10 minutes to pack/unpack (it's the same process in reverse) the bike, once I'd followed the instructions. That is rapid compared with my other bike packing experiences: removing the mech, working out how to safely strap it to the frame, searching round for bubble wrap and pipe insulation, sticking the bike in, realising it doesn't fit, juggling it around...repeat. Part of what makes it a joy is that the bag's zip goes around the whole upper circumference, allowing full side access - equally for the wheel pockets.

Along with the structural rods, rear wheels sober up that drunk friend of a bike bag. If you've ever tried to get a bike bag onto an airport trolley, you'll know what a great feature this is. They are smooth and roll very well, thanks to 110mm wheels with sealed bearings. Most of the weight is at the rear, making the bag well balanced for lifting with front handle when wheelieing too. In all there are 8 handles, making it easy to pick up from all angles (think luggage carousels).

I've been extremely impressed by the EVOC Travel Bag. Having taken bikes abroad a number of times I've always resented the transportation stage to the point where it puts me off flying.

The bag caters equally well for mountain bikes, all the way up to 29ers. The bag retails for £299 (+£18.99 for our fork block). That is on the premium side of bike bags but it is full of premium features. You pays your money, you takes your choice; sure you can transport a bike in a f

    In conclusion...

    Verdict

Great design makes short work of the usual bike travel woes - a truly stellar bike bag

Evoc Bike Travel Bag - 285 Litres is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 87.
Rated 3 out of 5 by mangomoose from A bit big! This bag is fine, but it is large. I am a small rider and there is masses of room in the bag once the bike is in place. With an external length of nearly 1.4m it takes up loads of room in a hire car, and can mean you hire a larger car than you need to. I now find myself looking enviously at more compact bags (like the Scicon AeroComfort 3.0 TSA Bike Travel Bag) Another issue for me was that the wheel came off on the first trip... I replace the wheel nut, but not with the locking kind you really need. So it limps a bit now...

Rated 3 out of 5 by r3volt97 from The Apple product of the bike industry No transportation issue so far , bike is well secured on the inside as it has some good strap points . The inside is pretty simple , no foam but some nylon sheets with some pretty light polycarbonate sheets as protection , the outside of the bag is made of Tarpaulin material so if you care of the look of your bag clean it regularly as it catches dust and other impurities very easily . If you strap the bike incorrectly the bag could roll over . The price should be lower considering the extras they want us to pay for , the bag does not even have any anti-theft measure for such a high price .

Rated 5 out of 5 by Colin0000 from 12 month use reviews and a flight every 2 weeks I had long struggled with the soft bag/hard case debate but as I didn't think it would be used that much I went for the soft bag as it stores a lot easier. I've seen reviews on this bag and yes some I agree with but some I don't. When you get the bag check the main wheels as one of mine came off too because the recessed bolt fell off or wasn't fitted. This is easily fixed with a locking nut and it has never been a problem since and I walk a long way with this bag after being dropped off on pavements and airport walkways and escalators. I don't have the aluminium frame as I don't need it. The plastic stay included works perfectly. I have bought the additional chain cover as it is worth its weight in gold for protecting things from oil. The fork guard at the front has ample padding. My bag has been used every fortnight on a flight either going to or coming from Europe. It's been dragged up and down escalators, kerbs, along pavements for several hundred meters and it hasn't got a mark on it and there is no damage on it. (Chances are reviews stating damage are probably more down to baggage handlers misuse rather than poor build quality.) No damage to the bike or drivetrain sustained to date. Moving around the bike is easy. There is a lift strap at the bottom of the bag at the front end which, when used, makes walking and maneuvering with the bag, really simple and easy. Put the heavy stuff at the back end when packing and the lighter stuff at the front and no problems at all. Admittedly when walking with my friends with 4 wheels on a hard case it looks more cumbersome but it moves really well and you learn how to "drive" it. Plenty of pockets for all those tools and food and bits you have to take plus ample storage for other bags of kit (provided Chain Cover is fitted) I use it with a road bike (aluminium framed) so it has a bit of extra strength there plus alloy seat post which I leave in to prop up top section of the bag. The in-built wheel storage areas are very good having traveled mainly with Carbon wheels. So if you don't use it much for travelling and need to store a bike bag somewhere I recommend this bag. Friends of mine have hard cases they cannot put through their loft space. I cannot fault the bag after 12 months of solid use.

Rated 3 out of 5 by MehdiMersni from Great Bike Bag, but... I was excited to upgrade from the Vaude soft bag i purchased from wiggle in 2018. My choice fell on this one, bag looks great, well build and i felt my new ride was secured traveling in it. However my disappointmemt came after only one flight, i was dragging the bag outside the airport and it didnt feel right, it seems like one of the wheels came loose then came off completely. I tried to mend it or look for a replacememt bolt/screw but couldnt do anything. I duct taped it and moved on.

    Q & A

Can I take this on a plane

My bike is my precious....can I take this bike bag on a plane without it ending up in broken pieces?
    Asked by: Buzz47
I bought this bag to take my good bike when I travel, in the past I have always travelled with my wet weather bike in a cheaper bag, I believe this Evoc will deliver my Lynskey safely.

Will case fit in a conventional vehicle

Just wondering how easy this case is to fit into a rent a car at the airport. Aynthing I need to be aware of ie only rent a hatchback, forget it get a smaller case etc etc
    Asked by: rockandroller
I drive a Subaru Liberty and have no trouble fitting this across the back seat. I think if you use a 'mid-size' rental vehicle then you should be fine. Just take a close look at the bag measurements and possibly measure up a vehicle prior - you don't want to get caught out at the airport.

    Clarificition

What is the difference between this and the Evoc bike travel bag 2013 http://www.wiggle.co.uk/evoc-bike-travel-bag-2013/ ?? Evoc website seems to show them together Is this the 2013 model? Does it include the Evoc road bike adaptor http://www.wiggle.co.uk/evoc-road-bike-adaptor-for-bike-travel-bag/? Some website videos suggest new 2013 model does Finally, does it also include the Evoc frame pad http://www.wiggle.co.uk/evoc-frame-pad-for-bike-travel-bag/? Evoc website suggests it does but Wiggle is not clear

I can confirm that the bags are the same other than the limited edition stripe colour way. I can confirm that these come with the frame padding and the road padding. I hope this helps.

Yes this bag will accommodate your 61cm road frame with no issues. Just make sure that the wheels are protected and the disks are covered up to avoid damaging the frame.

Can't remove seat, will my bike fit? The heigth is 85 cm .

    Asked by: Joakir
The bag allows a maximum of about 80cm in height. 85cm would definitely not fit assuming this measurement is from the bottom of the chain ring.

Does the bag have a solid base to clamp the bottom bracket & forks into?

What solid protection is there for vulnerable components eg rear mec, chainset & STI levers?
    Asked by: RacingSnake2
No solid base structure as such but well padded on the bottom of the bag. There are numerous velcro straps to prevent movement of the frame and when combined with the fork pad the forks are very well padded. The bottom of the frame sits on a large 3 inch thick pad to prevent the chain ring touching on the bottom of the bag. Gear levers are protected as you detach the handlebars and strap to the frame (padding provided). Some bubble wrap and foam pads of your own can certainly add to peace of mind.

You would have to remove the Mudguards and then they could be fitted inside the bag,

Does this bag have a handle on the front and top panel, so you can drag the bag on its wheels, or lift it?

Also what's the protection for disc rotors like on the wheel side pockets?
    Asked by: Micknz
The pictures clearly show the handle on the front and the wheels at the back. This makes it relatively easy to drag and (thus far) the wheels are sturdy and of sufficient quality to enable decent steering. The side pockets have a stiffer padding maybe 5mm thick. I've put my Zipps (remove skewers) in them and travelled a few times with no dramas - even with a close inspection on arrival!
