A tough CNC alloy back plate ensures it's durable enough to handle anything you can. Zippa D-Type is designed to be compatible with Shimano "direct mount" frames and with its 26t-36t chainring range, it is compatible with all the most popular 1x setups.

Would this be able to work with a 38t Chainguide ring

This is only compatible with chainrings 26t-36t.

Can you please confirm that this is a high direct mount. (i.e. would this fit a 2016 Giant Trance?). Thanks

Yes the Funn Zippa Lite D-Type chain ring guide is a direct mount fitting, therefore should fit your Giant Trance 2016.

What is "shimano direct mount" as opposed to direct mount? Is there a difference?

There is no difference. This attaches behind the chainset, there needs to be 2 threaded holes just above the bottom bracket shell which is call E2 type fitting.
