Description

The first in-sight cycling display from Garmin, Varia Vision enhances your road awareness by putting the cycling information you want right where you want it — in your line of sight. The lightweight display attaches to either side of sunglasses and relays information directly from your compatible device. Varia Vision displays up to 4 crucial data fields plus clear, color-coded graphic displays at any given time. This allows you to view information such as your heart rate, power and speed and still keep your eyes peeled for potential hazards in front of you. Rated 3 out of 5 by from If all it's blurb says was true it'd be OK! I purchased the Varia Vision [VV] to compliment the excellent Varia Rear Light Radar. Although not entirely satisfactory, for me, I feel more confident riding with the VV functioning and would be very uncomfortable without it. This acquisition was made in the knowledge, along with other Garmin Gizmos that vibrate, that they fail to accommodate many impaired folk in real world situations. E.g. Riding on a rough road with other traffic and wind noise requires a substantial vibration to provide an adequate notification/alarm/warning/whatever. Compared to a Cycle Computer the VV screen can be seen and understood with the eye only taken off the road for a fraction of a second. Only the eye has to move the rest of the body stays as is. By limiting the number of options visible on the screen to 2 the size of the characters enables them to be quickly read. I find this useful when training to get my Cadence higher and for encouraging me to continue to keep up Power during a long climb. I would not recommend this outright because given the high cost it requires individual assessment as to wether the VV would provide for the needs of the user.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Good idea, but in practice its a failure :( I love my tech and the idea of having a "heads up display" was very appealing. I have the brightness on my garmin very low to preserve the battery life, so a "second screen" which will give me an immediate prompt to navigation turn, or constant feedback on power/HR (useful for a TT) would be a bonus. In reality though, it doesn't deliver. For a start it does not fit well on my normal glasses (oakley radar something), although it does fit well on my Jawbreakers. If the screen is not pushed up against the lens it vibrates around and cannot be read easily, even if its up against the lens I found it difficult to read at speed. mounting it on the left obscures the kerb, mounting it on the right interferes with peripheral vision, overtakes, looking right at roundabouts/junctions etc. Swiping wasn't as easy/successful as expected so I tended to use the auto scroll which means that you need to keep your data pages low to stay "on topic" with your chosen fields. If anything, it made me realise that my garmin with Di2 hood buttons actually does an excellent job and in reality its only the battery life which is an issue.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Innovation has no limits Being a cycling geek and having most cycling gadgets known to man, I just had to have this!! Setting up and linking the Varia Vision to my Edge 1000 couldn't have been easier. (Just make sure you've updated both items on Garmin Express). Like your Edge, you can have a number of display screens visible with all your cycling stats. Probably the most awkward is aligning the arm on to your glasses. You get given a number of different size bands and any straight armed glasses will fit snugly. Although they do struggle to align on my Oakley Radarlock Pitch arms, you can twist the screen slightly and bend the arm, but it's not a brilliant fit. Although a little bulky it's reasonably lightweight. Once aligned I took to the road, yes you do keep your head more upright and on the road ahead, which is a real bonus, but I still find myself looking at the viewfinder and not concentrating 100% on the road. The slide control is a little bit fiddly with full fingered gloves. If I had a different set of glasses I may have given 4/5 stars, but overall a nice bit of kit, expensive but innovative. Maybe a few different colours to match your glasses or helmet would be a bonus.

Unfortunately this will not be compatible. At present time the Edge 1000 and Edge 520 are the only compatible units.
