Easy to useI am fairly new to building wheels, but this meter is a great aid to understanding the amount of tension added to the spokes in the final 'tweaks' Previously I think I was inclined to over-do it. Watch a few videos and use a trueing stand.

a must for any wheel builderI purchased this tool as a backup for checking the tension on each spoke in buckled wheels I get in for repair . it works just fine and can help locate the problems from the start . A great tool.

Wonderful toolDon’t know how I have lives so long with out this tool makes wheel trueing a breeze
Does this work with a 20 inch wheel (406 mm) with 36 spokes?
My Park TM1 spoke tension meter is too wide for my 20” (406 mm) 36 spoke wheels on my Bike Friday New World Tourist. Each spoke has only 100 mm free length onto which to connect the tension measuring tool. (This I measured between the spoke nipple and the cross-over with the adjacent spoke).
The TM1 has worked well on my Surly Troll 26” (556 mm) 36-spoke wheels.
Two years ago I built my own 20” wheels and used the "sound" method to equalize the spoke tension. This involves tapping each spoke and listening to the pitch. These wheels have lasted Ok for over 10,000 km of loaded self-supported bike touring with my Bike Friday, some off-road. No broken spokes. However, I would like to set the spoke tension more scientifically.
(For a parts list and the wheel building steps I followed, see my blog http://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/page/?page_id=400695).
If this spoke tension meter does not work, is there another suitable make?
Thanks for the help

Hi Jordan
Thanks for the response. However, my question isn’t about the type of spoke. It relates to the width of the spoke tension meter. On my 20” x 36 spoke wheels, if the meter is wider than about 95 mm it wont fit between the spoke nipple’s inner side and the first cross-over spoke. My Park Tools TM1 is too wide. Anyone know the width of this meter?
Thanks

How does it work?
Hello, I bought a xtools tension meter to repair a damaged wheelset (change the rim). When i measured the spokes with the old rim the readings on the tool where in the 70s. So i changed the rim and thighted things up and again the readings ended up in the 70s when it feels good. However when i took a look at the provides chart none of the readings where no where near 70. That leads me to think that someting is wrong. Do you have any insight on this?
