Description

A dirty drivetrain causes poor shifting and unnecessary wear to expensive parts. The ChainGang contains everything needed to quickly and easily clean the chain, freewheel cogs, and chainrings. The ChainGang includes a CM-5 Cyclone: Chain Scrubber, a GSC-1 GearClean Brush, and an 8 oz. (237 ml) bottle of BIO ChainBrite. The CG-2 works on all derailleur bikes and most 3-speed and coaster brake bikes.

Liquid is now supplied in satchets instead of bottle shown

Review from Bikeradar

A chain cleaner is one of the best things you'll ever buy if you're going to own a bike for more than a month, and this kit from Park Tool contains one of the best - the fantastic CM-5.

It features a magnet in the base to attract metal particulates, and replaceable brushes, and it's a complete doddle to use. It comes with a bottle of CB-2 cleaning fluid and a great brush/scraper - the GSC-1 - for cleaning the rear sprockets.

In conclusion...

Buy it, use it regularly, have a happy bike, buy fewer chains

Rating: 5/5

Park Tools CG-2 Chain Gang Chain Cleaner Set 4.6 5 389 389
Gets chain sparkling I have to say this chain cleaner really works well - it gets all the muck off the chain with little effort and leaves the chain free from dirt and oil. It feels robust and is easy to clean. Only thing is it's a bit expensive but I think it's more than worth it. 13 July 2010
Does what it says on the tin Bought this after I realised dirt was making my chain and gears a lil clunky. After realising there was a huge range of cleaners, brushes, toxic solutions to get the job done I went with this one after a recommendation from a friend. The cleaner box and fluid Its a simple mechanism with a few cogs with stiff brushes on them and a couple of sponge pads. very simple to work with degreaser solution included (which is amazing btw!) you just clip the box onto the bottom of the chain and simply rotate the pedals to feed the chain through the solution. very easy to use and literally take a few minutes and no fuss with taking the chain off. Also real easy to take the box apart and clean in after. The brush. I was really impressed with this too, well designed with user in mind. allows you to knock out all the mud n dirt trapped inbetween your gears and the brush on the other end is nice and solid to scrub tough mud after a few sessions out n about. One tip: def do this outside and in a old tshirt cos once your scrubbing and feeding the chain through the solution there is risk of flicking some old grease on yourself. Alse dont forget to re-lube the chain after. Overall, great product and every rider should have one to give your bike some TLC. 13 July 2010
Better than expected After reading various reviews about chain cleaners I didn't have the highest expectations of quality or performance. However this solid device was very good and cleaned off the muck very well. I had a few problems with stiff links afterwards so perhaps I needed to use twice with a fresh solution? The chain is clean now though and will hopefully stay that way with repeated use. The solution did come in a bottle rather than sachets. 13 July 2010
I think it is quite expencive considering all it is a cleaning devise, but if time's money it pays for itself over and over again. It had my neglected training bike chain gleeming in a no time and not a tooth brush in site. I also feel happier it keeps other brushes oil free reducing the risk of getting oil on the disc brakes of the Mtb. Once you've tried it you won't go back. 09 July 2010

Answer:
It came with a bottle of cleaner solution rather than the sachet- but as they say in their own instruction manual the thing works on just diluted washing up liquid in water, so you can just refill the liquid bottle at the sink when you are cleaning the mechanism

Answer:
Mine did not come with sachets. But the bottle in the advertisement.

Not a very large bottle. But it says on the box you can use washing up liquid as a replacement. (not sure if its exactly those words. Check box. )

Hope that helps.

None- the description is wrong. Mine came with a bottle, good for about 5 uses. I'm surprised wiggle haven't corrected this yet. It's been wrong for ages.
In the instructions with this product, it suggests using washing up liquid when you run out of cleaning fluid

I have a similar one that works fine on my Bad Boy with Alfine hub. It just cleans the chain (in fact it's better witout the 27 grubby sprockets to clean too - just the 2.)

Happy scrubbing!

Can't see why not. The chain runs through the middle of the cleaning kit to be cleaned.
The gears aren't affected or needed when the chain is cleaned.

Park Tools CG2 Set v CM-5 Cyclone

Have I missed something? Is there a reason why the CM5 on it's own is more expensive than the CG2 set that includes the CM5, liquid cleaner and brush?

Answer:
A good frugal Yorkshire quesion - I was going pose it myself :)

They 'look' the same, same roller config, handle, and magnet, my guess is that the kit is on 40% offer, hence the difference - worth a punt...

ps look at the photo of the 'mod' to hook it to your deraileur, I have an old one with an inbulit hook that is rubbish, hence getting this.

May all your links be stong ones... Cheers
