Park Tool Park Tool Spoke Tension Meter
Very good tool
I am just an amateur in wheel truing. I spent a lot of time each time I had to true a wheel. When I had to to straighten a section of the wheel I usually tightened or loosened groups of spokes so many times the displacement moved to another part of the wheel. I can check the tenson with it, so I discovered that only a few spokes of the group in each side were out of the average tension. With the tension meter I can choose the side of the wheel on which tighten or loosen to center the wheel.
You have to swing a little the tension meter with the trigger released when you engage to the spoke because some times the gauge sticks one degree over the final tension. As the scale is not linear related to the tension this can represent a great difference over the real tension.

Great tool, now i can do minor adjustments on my wheelset without finding a shop.

Does the job!
I found this tool totally adequate for the job, after you get used to the action of it, it does the job just fine and gives you a close comparison between spokes, combined with a trueing stand trued all my wheels great, I'm definitely no expert either!

Easy to use and read
Helps ensure wheel is tensioned correctly easy useful tool.

Great for getting equal spoke tension
I pondered over whether I actually needed this for building my new set of wheels. I must say it is worth every penny. You feel more confident in knowing that your wheels are tensioned correctly. The App on Park tools website is great to check that the readings are within a good tolerance.

spoke tension meter
Great Tool keeps your wheels in the right tension very handy when a spoke brakes and you refit one yourself gives you piece of mind if you think you have over or under tighten your spokes Great tool if you try to wheel build yourself very easy to use

Having this makes wheel truing so much easier. No more guessing with spoke tensions.
13 November 2015
An essential item if you either build your own wheels from scratch or change the occasional spoke.
07 September 2015
Good for checking for even spoke tension. If you do much wheel building it gives confidence in your build.

Very useful to check right spoke tension
I have rebuilt a wheelset for the first time and without the tension meter I would have not been able to achieve the right average tension in all spokes, front and rear, with a true wheel.

A must for repairing wheels
This tension meter allows you to take the guesswork out of spoke
tension. No more twanging using fingers & trying to distinguish different sounds. Especially when your hearing is not what it used to be.
Park tools how about a digital version with a sensible price?

Does the job
A solid piece of kit. Well made and easy to use. I reset up my wheels after I noticed some loose spokes. Easy to assess the basic tension of the spokes by getting an average first then tweeking the loose ones up.

Simple effective design. Very easy to use
I haven't had this long enough to see how long it lasts but I have found its really simple design very easy to use and the build seems very sturdy

Easy to use
Pretty accurate and easy to use. A lot of spoke combinations to find in the translation matrix.

This is a very well made spoke tension tool.
The instructions/spoke tension chart is very useful.
The link to the website for setting up your spoke tension difference is a great feature.
Recommended for all types of uses pro or home mechanic.
Park Tools are quite pricey but you pay for quality build.

Works great if you take the time to use it multiple times at every single spoke.

Used when building up my first set of wheels and does the job just nicely. Well design and build for the job in hand. Overall i would recommend this tension meter.

Good product as usual from Park Tool, great for checking your spoke tension, works as it should, get one of the Park Tools spoke keys too if your getting this.

Nothing Better for The Money
Bought this to check my own wheels as I could feels some were very loose. Plucking the spokes works if you have a few years experience in doing that. Found it more than adequate for the job, so much so that my next step is to build a set of wheels using it.

A very good value for money
This is basic spoke tension meter. But do not let the simple look to fool you. It does what it is made to do.
The tool comes with a simple spoke thickness checker and chart for converting meter readings to actual tension values based on the thickness and type of the spoke.
Park Tool website has more extensive conversion table for spokes that have emerged after the tool was released.
The biggest value of this tool is the fact that it enables you to quantify the tension of the spoke. It is easy to check that the tension is similar on all spokes.
The only con for this meter is that you need to release the meter on spoke in similar manner all times if you want to get consistent readings. But you soon get the hang of it.
I used to build wheels by tone, but with this I was able to assure myself that the wheels I have made a made well with even tension on the spokes.
if you ever feel that the meter's value might be off, it is easily recalibrated by tensioning a spoke with a e.g. ballast of 100 kg and measuring that. The adjutment is made by turning a screw that affects the meters spring load. Real simple and rugged system.

Park quality & functionality
Quick & easy to use. Ideal if you do your own wheel-building or spoke maintenance. Gives added reassurance beyond having a true wheel. Excellent product.

Simple but effective
Remarkably easy to use and effective.
It's scary to find out how unbalanced spoke tensions are, even in brand new wheels. This tool helps ensure an evenly tensioned wheel.

Very practical and simple to use
Very simple to use.
I recommend it.
Tool very practical to control the tension of spokes.
28 October 2014
Easy to use, Very nice to have when building a wheel or checking an old wheel. I use it to check that a side has the same tension and that the spokes get as high tension as possible (without exceeding maximum for the rim).

Helped me build my first set of wheels
I think I would have been hindered without the use of this tool.
Good to find out evenness whilst building up the wheel and to find when you have tensioned to the correct final amount.
11 October 2014
Without this, its hard to get the wheels right and durable.

not for OCD sufferers
a brilliant bit of kit that gets you much closer to decently tensioned wheels than feel/sound alone. checked what i thought were evenly tensioned wheels to find there was a lot of room for improvement. use this to balance out each side's average tension, then true and repeat until wheel stabilises.
if you really want to you can make up a calibration tool (see youtube) to increase accuracy.

Worth the money
Spokes come loose, wheels drift from true, especially if you pound the hills. I find this tool is invaluable for re-truing my wheels.
I now use it weekly to check the spokes are all still tight - allows me to fix spoke problems before they cause the wheel to wobble.
Has saved me it's cost, compared to my local bike shop that isnt very local, and a few rides in the few months I've had it.

Easy to use meter
I use this (as you would expect) when building new wheels or truing existing ones and it is a simple to use well made it of kit. Just as you would expect from Park Tools.

useful addition to a build
a present for my brother who is the family wheelbuilder, his verdict is that having had one it makes wheelbuilding better because you're not guessing or relying on the ping test

I don't have the flat bladed type spokes, however, it seems to me, the principle of instrument does not preclude the use of it in this version. The difference is that in the case of the flat bladed type spokes tool will need to be oriented in the plane of the spokes.

The readings on the device itself are arbitrary; you refer to a chart containing a very large range of possible spoke dimensions to get the correct kg tension. There is a large bladed spoke section with pretty much every spoke size you will find on there.
