Polar Heart Rate Monitor Strap
Serious athletes and exercisers, persons with medical situations requiring monitoring, and persons trying to manage or alter their weight and body shape will benefit from a Heart Rate Monitor, of which Polar are probably the leading manufacturer. Polar analogue heart rate transmitters are compatible with most common gym C.V. equipment.
The HRM gives you a standardised method of measuring your time and work output with an indicative KiloCalorie figure. Most sophisticated HRM’s also allow you to track your performance and output over the weeks and seasons.
This Polar WearLink+ Replacement Heart Rate Monitor Strap replaces the standard fabric version that comes with all medium and upper tier Polar Heart Rate Monitors, where your either analogue or WND digital transmitter unit snaps on.
My records show the Polar Heart Rate Monitor Strap lasts about 1,000 hours before it loses sensitivity beyond use.
Tips:
i. Ladies or persons with very small chest size, buy the small to medium size, otherwise for the rest of us, this version is perfect and very comfortable.
ii. When I shower, I always soak my strap in the water and then let it dry over night.
iii. Before starting a session, I soak the sensor parts (the two metal mesh looking bits) under the tap which ensures excellent heart data pickup.
iv. The radio range from the Polar WND transmitter to Polar RS800SD watch is at least 25 meters so you could take it off if you’re doing boxing, combat, or contact sports. (It’s best not to hit people with an expensive watch on.)
v. As with all things “stap-py” and elastic, set it neither too lose nor too tight. Basically the HRM strap is like, erm, underwear for athletes. You’ll forget about that you’re wearing it.
vi. Gentlemen, it helps to wax or shave your chest hair. ;-)
vii. After 1,000 hours, this strap will be worn out, so just chuck it and purchase a new one for about £12 from Wiggle. My RS800SD battery lasts about 750 hours (of training). The HRM transmitter battery life is at least 2,000 hours in comparison.

Using with the GARMIN ANT+ HRM monitor
I bought 4 pieces of these Polar elastic straps to go with my Garmin HRM monitors. The reason is that they are cheaper than Garmins replacement straps and MUCH MORE IMPORTANTLY they are not starting to stink after a while of use.
My garmin straps start to smell quite a bit when working out indoors for 3 hours. I almost think I need to explain myself to other people working out next to me and tell them that the rubbery smell is because of the strap.
Solved that problem with the Polar spare elastic straps that interestingly have the same spacing between the two buttons to attach the monitor as Garmin.
Also I never had to wet this strap to get the monitor going. With the very old polar rubber belts I always had to wet the chest a bit.

Polar Wearlink + Strap, Size Small
This is a replacement strap for when your existing strap no longer works. It came in genuine Polar packaging and works just as it should.
Size Small is exactly that, perfect if you are within the last two inches of adjustment on the standard M-XL strap. But if your chest is bigger than 36", stick with the standard size.
At 11.99, it was the cheapest deal around.
