Description

Read the Wiggle Blog Review of the Schwalbe Ultremo ZX V-Guard Folding Road Tyre here

They have strived relentlessly to increase its speed and installed the ZX with V-Gurad and RaceStar Triple Compound. Both components are perfectly tuned to the requirements of an outstanding competition tyre.

The result: Significant reduction in rolling resistance. Even though they used additional material to reinforce the tyre shoulders and to ensure a considerable increase in mileage.

Triple Star Compound
Schwalbe have taken the development of Triple Compound a step further. In the course of innumerable series tests, prototypes, laboratory and practical tests they developed a system of highly specialised single compounds. They arranged these into Compound-Teams, each engineered to fulfil a specific job. The job description of the Ultremo ZX is “as fast as possible” so the Compound-Team is RaceStar Triple Compound.

V-Guard
An extremely cut-resistant high-tech fibre makes it possible to ensure even on very light tyres an extraordinary high level of puncture resistance.

Schwalbe Schwalbe Ultremo ZX V-Guard Folding Road Tyre 4.4 5 95 95
Spot on item My last pair of tyres are the same, just a different wall colour. They fit very easily & if & when you do get a puncture they are then easy to remove. Most of the time without tyre leavers. I searched the net for a different tyre for a change, but struggle to find a better tyre not just for price but every thing else you need on a tyre, when your hurtling down a hill you need to have trust in a 23mm pumped up to the max bit of rubber. 17 December 2014
Good tyre but hard to fit and remove. PROS... A completely slick tyre that seems to offer little rolling resistance compared to the tyres that were on my bike as standard. Hypnotically I can spend ages looking down on the coloured stripe. I've rode over all sorts of gravel and in wet conditions and only one puncture in over two years. I haven't found these slippy in winter / wet but then I cycle more cautiously in these conditions. This tyre looks nice on the bike, especially with the colours available. CONS... I found these have a very stiff bead and very hard to get on and off my Campag Zondas while indoors in perfect conditions. I would not want to be in the middle of nowhere and change the inner tube in the dark and in winter. I think I'd phone a friend. 16 December 2014
Great winter tyre Having had a series of autmn punctures with another well known "tough tyre", I bought these and have been very impressed with them, especially with their handling in the wet weather 08 December 2014
Simply a really good tyre These have become the tyre of choice across the 6 road bikes in our garage. I can't remember more than half a dozen punctures over the past 3 years, probably 20,000 miles of riding. Not cheap but you really do get what you pay for. 15 November 2014

Are these the TUBELESS version of this tyre?

Doesn't seem to be clear if you have the tubeless version of this tyre available or not. The tubeless edition is the one I want, to put on a pair of DA9000 C24 rims...

Answer:
Nope.
If going for the tubeless, remember they are a pig to get on the rims (and off again at the side of the road when you eventually puncture).
I use both tubed and tubeless (on different wheels) but prefer the tubed version as they are a LOT easier to fit/remove.

I can confirm these would be the standard models that use inner tubes to keep inflated. We only have two tubeless models from Schwalbe - these are linked below.

I have 2 of these and have noticed that after a few hundred miles they are losing threads

I have 2 of these tyres and have noticed after a few hundred miles they are losing threads on both tyres around the circumference on both sides, just above the rim. Looking at the blogs it seems quite common. My question is will this affect the structural integrity of the tyre? I tend to run them at about 100-110psi

Answer:
Check your brakes - sounds like they are rubbing on the tyre. If this is the case, the tyre will soon wear through and the tube will start blowing out through a hole - you want to avoid that! Adjust your brake pad height.
If your brakes aren't rubbing, then it sounds like the tyres are wearing out - I have used many of the ultremos, and I've had one set start to shed threads - I threw them in the bin and put on a new set and I haven't had the problem repeat. Usually the tyre tread is worn when they get to that state and it's time to replace them anyway. They aren't a big mileage tyre.

Answer:
I use the Ultremos on my race & summer bikes for a few years now. I sometimes get the same in terms of the threads, but have never had a failure before they're too squared off to use (about 3000km). The same happened with the GP4000s I used to use, but they looked a lot more worrying, hence my swap to the Ultremos.

Answer:
It should not interfere with the structure of the tyre if it's only one or two threads, but if you have concerns please feel free to get in touch using the contact form and providing a couple of images, we'd be happy to take a look and advise further.

Why is the black version sized at 650x23 when the other colours are 700x23, is this correct?

Answer:
650x23 is for smaller wheels than 700c. These won't fit on 700c wheels. Typically you only get 650c on XS/S frames or kids bikes.
