First Timer
Never used clipin pedals before and so have nothing to compare with but these pedals are great, they are easy to adjust, easy to clip into and even though I have had some hairy moments I have always managed to get out of them very quickly when I had to (but never came out of them by accident).

My order arrived in Australia within a week. Able to match pedals with existing cranks on my bike based on clear information on this website. Good value too.

Superb Pedal
This pedal is one of the best pedal I have ever owned so far. Not only it works well as a clip pedal but it works well as a flat pedal.
I tend to ride flat when I'm going DH, and I first thought that the clip is gonna be annoying cause its popping up a bit, but after my first DH run with it, I completely forgot that it was a clip-in pedal. I've hit the pedal couple of times against rocks and trees and it still in excellent condition.
Another excellent pedal from Shimano.

Wonderful Pedals
First of all, I'm an absolute beginner to spds, so unfortunately can't compare these with any others. These are however wonderfully easy to clip in & out of and the platform provides a pretty decent level of support and grip for when I'm not clipped in (with Shimano MT32 shoes). Though not so much that I'd ride long distances without being clipped in, which would be silly anyhow. I can't imagine unclipping accidentally with these (even on the weakest setting), but it's still early days...
After my first half an hour of practice on a local bike path I found I got the hang of clipping in & out quite well, and though it hasn't happened yet I'm sure there'll be some pedal-induced stacks to look forward to... In the same half hour I discovered the joy of being able to lift up both tires simultaneously with the least bit of effort (and skill :o). Which won't stop me from trying learning to bunny hop properly, but I sure love these pedals. I'm looking forward to taking these out on the trails (after some more practice) and I expect the platform will be very handy on certain sections.
Unfortunately I don't have any other clipless pedals to compare to, but these are exactly what I wanted from a set, so very pleased. They also look like they're built to last, but will see how they go.

Very nice pedals for the price
I bought the Shimano DXM647 about 9 months back and have so far covered about 2500 miles on them, Had a couple of the expected mishaps at the beginning, as these are my first experience with going clipless, however, the pedals have been faithful companions on all my rides since purchase and I could never now go back. In general, It's well worth setting your cleats accurately to ensure foot position is bang on (otherwise you will ache)
So impressed, I purchased a 2nd pair 3months back for my son, who is a very much more experienced rider than me and he loves them.
They clip in fluidly and are intuitive to unclip, I would say after about 10-15 miles I stopped thinking about being clipped in and getting out of them from thereon was natural.
I have had no problems with them and have only had to increase the tension (which is so easy) twice in 2.5k.
If you are thinking of going clipless, I can honestly recommend these, they look pretty good too and both sides of the pedals are usable so no fuss getting in them at all. You will also immediatlely notice the accelleration boost as you apply power through the entire stroke - Actually, don't buy them, cos I enjoy passing cyclists up hills and I should be keeping this secret to myself really - evil laugh!

robust allrounder goodlooking mtb pedal
The robust plastic material lasts a long time and is leg-friendlier than metal cages!

A good pedal
As a SPD pedal this pedal is great. Especially with softer soles as the wide design lets you avoid hotspot. Build quality is excellent.
However its really not a good pedal to be used with regular shoes which is sort of the whole point of the design. Infact I would go as far as to say its about as comfortable and usefull with regular shoes as a normal double sided SPD. The reason for this is that the locking mechanism pertrudes about 5-10mm and pokes in to your foot. The other reason is that they offer no grip what so ever. In the wet they are even worse. They become VERY slippery.
Therefore I cannot give them 5 stars despite the excellent build quality and servicable design. They do however get a solid 3 star rating for the ability to provide a solid platform for your foot and the shimano build quality and pricing - even if they achieve this at a really high weight compared to the shimano touring pedal offerings in this price range.
In short:
A high quality pedal that doesnt really provide any benefit over similiarly priced touring options. Mainly due to the fact that they dont work well with regular shoes.
If you are looking for pedals that work with regular shoes aswell as SPD's you would be better of looking at the Shimano "A530" or "M324". And if you simply want a pedal with larger area to support you weight the double sided "PD-M530" or "A600" are better options. All four are available from Wiggle.

Affordable, durable and classic DH/Enduro pedal
Great pedal that does exactly what it´s supposed to do. On the heavy side but for the money it´s spot on. Viva Shimano!
Use it for my Enduro hardtail.

Now on my second pair of these. The first pair lasted 5 years, inlcuding various trips to the Alps, wales and Scotland, taking all in their stride. They have lasted amazingly well partly because of the plastic cage which seems to have coped where metal caged pedals of mates have given up - perhaps some give in the plastic helps. The large area means that when your feet are flapping about on a squirrelly decent, you can easily locate the cleat and even if you dont there is enough pedal to support you quickly. Would thoroughly recommend....

Excellent all rounder
I have used this model for many years as as my standard for off road cross country riding. Its nice to have something big to stamp on to get going before you clip in.They survived the usual knocks and scrapes OK. Also, they don't clog with mud too easily, unlike some of Shimano's earlier efforts.Eventually the original cleat mechanism became badly worn (Nothing lasts for ever) and became prone to unexpected release. So this is my second pair. They are not as heavy as they look because the black platform is made from tough plastic; not metal.

Rugged
Going from flats to these, I notice how well the plastic platform stands up to pedal bashing on rocks and doesn't get caught as much as the metal platforms do. Extremely happy with them and wouldn't want anything else than maybe some small spikes for the rare cases where you unclip and don't manage to get clipped in before the next rough section. Just try to stay clipped in and you are fine...

Best all mountain pedals
I was nervous about riding clipped in but with these it is a whole new experience, I have better control over the bike and have not been bucked since converting from flats. I also have no issue getting out of them in a hurry.

Great pedals.
The pedals are for my 29er and are excellent. They look good and work perfect and give two options for either using as a flat or a clipless.

Great price and great pedals
These are the good old pedals for AM. You can't go wrong with these ones. Clipless but it gives you the stability of a platform when going through those tricky technical areas. the only downside is they are a little heavy.

Good for purpose
Bought these for the odd nip to the shops cycle that I wouldn't want to bother with clip ins, works perfectly....

Solid and reliable
More expensive than some similar looking pedals but the bigger cage and better internals are worth considering for heavier duty work.

Quality shimano product
If you're wanting to try being clipped in for mountain biking these are the pedals to try,a great clip in unit with a large platform so it doesn't matter if you don't clip in straight away.real confidence booster.

Clip in pedal you can also use as a normal pedal so versatile love it

Great peddle
Great peddle second set I have had as sold old MTB with the first peddles on it

excellent pedal
first spd style pedal, and it does what its meant to.
easy to fit and set up, gives good confidence on trails and improves general riding.
fallen off a few times as you would expect being my first spds but they seem to be holding up with minimal marks.
they are quite heavy but the benefits I feel out weight the negatives.

Great performance and well made
These pedals were my 1st foray in to the world of clipless pedals and they've totally converted me. Well made and great to use. Feet feel secure and well positioned - definitely feel I get more out of my legs because of them. I also bought the Shimano M088 shoes and they seem to go together perfectly.
Simple to fit and adjust. Also work fine with trainers for those quick rides or if I'm trying something a bit risky with a good chance of needing to get my foot down very quickly.
Can't fault Shimano and this is a great product for a good price.

great for secure contact with the bike off road
large platform gives confidence on tricky sections, faster clipping in and you can ride to the shops in flip flops. The large platform also seems to transfer power better than the usual tiny spd, with less wobbling about and shoe flex. It feels almost as solid as a flat BMX style pedal with the benefits of clipping in - really secure.

The only way when it comes to pedals
This is not my first lot of pedals I have now had three lots of them as there long term lasting and super user friendly easily accessible to clip in and out.
10 July 2014
Pedal was exactly what I was looking for and at the usual great Wiggle price.
Thanks

Meh, definitely too bulky, and you can still feel the spd pedal under your foot. If you are looking for a double purpose pedal, maybe it's better to go for a flip-flop flat/spd one. The idea on this is good but it didn't come out very well eventually.

quality build, durable and safe
I purchased an earlier version of these pedals in 2000, and have commuted almost every weekday using them. They are far simpler to engage and disengage than the M520 style pedal making them a safer option for city rides. The plastic is a little worn but they still operate without fault.

A good initiator into the world of SPD's
So all of my friends ride clipless and the thought was a little daunting as I've only been back on the pedals a short while so I picked these are I knew if I didn't get on with clips then I could still use my trainers without wasting my money.
My first outing with them was as expected I came up to a road slowed down tried to unclip my feet and then panic I couldn't break free, one grazed leg and a big bruise on my hip and confidence was a little dented.
Everyone i'd spoken too beforehand told me i'd fail and they had all done this at least once so I didn't feel so bad and carried on my ride.
I then spent the rest of the ride practising the get in and get out process to build the confidence and overall by the end I felt pretty comfortable with them and hopefully will learn to use them to there full potential on my next adventure.
Having the cage around the clip I feel has two advantages the first being the ability to jump on the bike with my regular trainers but the second was the ability to unclip my feet on the really tricky and slow sections and pedal with my heal or heals giving me the confidence knowing I could get my feet on the ground quickly until unclipping becomes second nature.
Overall i'm really happy with these and once the confidence is there i'm looking forward to the benefits of clipless that everyone raves about.
