The quality you expect from Shimano
Really pleased with he product, arrived quickly, very easy to fit, black set looks great and most importantly great braking power.

Good Stopping Power
Bought these brakes for my 105 group-set, aluminium frame, carbon fork road bike. I regularly ride over the Purbeck Hills in Dorset. Never had the nerve for fast decents so my brakes get a lot of use. Very pleased with the solid stopping power provided by these callipers. Of course these are long reach callipers so match forks that have clearance for full mudguards.

Replacement for single pivot
Used to replace the old single pivot brakes on a 1980's raleigh. The bolt on the front brake (of these new shimano brakes) is the perfect length for rear brakes on an old bike. Now my bike can actually stop in the wet.

Great quality for price.
These caliper's are great quality for the price. I've gone for a front only break and this supplies a surprising amount of breaking power considering. I've teamed it with a Dia-Compe Tech 99 Gold Finger Brake Lever and amazed at the breaking power achieved with little compression. Break pads have lasted well but just needed to replace with a Clarks Road Brake Pad so hopefully they offer the same amount of grip.

Easy to fit and good feel to brakng.
I purchased a new Trek 1.5 in 2011 and have never felt confident with the unbranded brakes fitted by Trek. I ordered a pair of the BR-R451 brakes last week and what a difference they have made. It took less than an hour to fit them and they are a perfect fit, being the same 57mm drop as the unbranded brakes that were fitted. The levers fitted to the bike are Tiagra ST4500 and they appear to operate the R451's fine. The brakes now feel far more progressive, responsive and very positive. Although I have only given them a basic trial, I feel confident they will be far superior to the original brakes fitted.

Very nice, excellent value and looks the buisness
Good for the money, looks great it black. Clearance for 28mm tyres as well a bonus.

Fairly cheap and solid product.
I realy like this brake. I use it on a custom built bike, so I couldn't use a reglar pivot length brake, butiker this did the jobbar. Easy to setup and adjust.

Good quality brakes, not really right for my bike
First of all, the pads that come with these aren't the best, so I'd recommend maybe also getting some Clarke pads and shoes (or Kool stop or whatever). That said, they're OK and I used the supplied pads on the front for a good few months after fitting them (probably rode about 1200 miles in that time). When I wore them out I swapped them for Clarkes (and remembered how good braking could be again :)
The callipers themselves are excellent quality, falling somewhere around 105 or maybe Tiagra level, quality wise. The pads are Tiagra (no shoe or replaceable block), and don't work especially well in the wet.
The trouble is, though, they don't really fit my bike (a Trek 1.2). I can't blame the brakes for that, of course. When I replaced the old callipers (the stock OE brakes on the Treks are really awful), I did some googling and found various internet people from the past talking in forums about replacing the brakes on their Trek's, and finding regular callipers too short. I figured long drop made sense (given then mud-guard eyes etc) and went for these based on that. Well, those older Trek 1.2s must've been different to mine, because they don't really fit. I can use them in a pinch (and do -- they've been on for at least 6 months now), but the pads are right at the very, very top. Really, I need standard callipers. I'll probably replace them with second hand ultegra at some point.

Long Drop Brakes
My wife had Tektra long drop calipers on her Cannondale and kept complaining that she felt she had to really squeeze the brake leaver. I didn't think she was right until I tried them. The Tektra brakes are pretty poor, once you have engaged the brake you can keep squeezing. Very spongy and as a result the cables were stretching and starting to break. I bought these Shimano's to replace them and what a difference! No spongy braking, minimal play once the brake is engaged. Vast improvement and my wife now feels much safer. Another great Shimano product.

Excellent longer arm length brake caliper
I needed to get a set of new brake calipers to fit my new frame because the wheels are slightly further away from the brakes to allow for a larger section tyre.
These fitted perfectly and now give me the reach so the brake pads align with the rim correctly. The braking performance is superb.

BR-R451 Dual Pivot Brake Caliper
Can`t leave one as the calipers where not long enough to fit my mudguard clearance frame.
If you have a frame without mudguard clearance and want some really good looking brakes that cost less don`t look any further.

Very reasonable price, easy to set up and fine as a brake.

Good product but not easy to fit
Not very expensive product but had trouble fitting it to make the springs function correctly.
01 May 2013
Easy to fit and a big improvement on my previous ones which did not release properly for easy wheel removal.

Cheap and reliable
Bought to replace a worn out brake on my commuting bike, has all the features you could wish for at a low price, not thrills and you can tell that it's at the lower end of the shimano range, but as good if not better than anything in this price range.... but all the adjusters, a pack of different length bolts (which didn't come on my £300 TRP's fitted to me summer bike) and dual pivot
Above all, as soon as fitted, stopped my bike

Can I use these brake calipers with new Claris levers? Series number ST-2400. Your tech info says "Must be used in conjunction with ST-4600, ST-4603, ST-5700, ST-5703, ST-6700 or ST-7900 STI's for correct leverage ratio" Do claris levers have same leverage ratio as 4600/Tiagra etc?
Not necessarily! The length of the brake arms is fine, but you need to get or even make a customised hex bolt that will fasten the brake to the Brompton correctly - a job for purists and technicians only.
I've been having trouble finding brakes that fit my old 70's road bike. After some trial and error I've found that I need a mid range reach, 45mm-55mm should work. So if these brakes are in that range I would like to buy them.
