Customer Reviews

Shimano Sora HG50 9 Speed Road Cassette is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 270.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Heather13 from Great price and easy to fit Great quality even with it being more towards the budget end when it comes to Shimano . Easy to fit, remove clip at back of cassette and just slide them all straight onto the wheel without having to align each one individually. No complaints with the cassette.

Difference between CS-HG50 & HG50

I need to replace my cassette, which is a CS HG50 12/25T on my winter commuter . You sell an HG50 with 12/25T; but the nearest CS version is11/32. Just wondering what the difference is between the CS version & non-CS version. Should I stick with same ratio & go non-CS or stick with CS version & change ratios. Thanks.
Asked by: gsbristol
I can confirm that the HG50 and the CS-HG50 are identical products however the listings may have different gearing options.

do i need spacers ?

i have recently acquired a mavic aksium race wheelset,it needs a cassette im running a 9 speed sora/tiagra set up on my bike so I know this should fit,my problem is ive read confusing things about spacers that should be used on mavic wheels, there is no spacer supplied with the wheel so do I need one along with the cassette and if so what do I need. thanks
Asked by: jamesyp
I have Mavic Cosmic Elite wheels and I'm using sora and I had to use the spacer. If u bought them new the spacer should have come with them. If not try searching online for one. They're not that expensive, only a few £££.

I have Tiagra groupset on my bike, but from way back in 1999! Want to lower the ratios for my son, so wondered if this will be compatible? thanks
Asked by: Dougthedoc
If your Tiagra groupset is 9 speed then yes.

Shimano HG50 cassette v HG80

Looking to buy a new cassette for a new set of wheels I'm buying. Is the HG80 lighter than the HG50. I have a 12-27t but was interested in the 11-28t HG80, Shimano only list it as a MTB cassette? Are there any disadvantages in the slightly wider spread in the ratio?
Asked by: ChrisCFC
28 T may be too much for most rear derailleurs on road bikes (27 is the usual max). You can try adjusting the "B" tension screw to its maximum or even reversing it. If this doesn't work you may have to use a long cage rear derailleur usually sold as mtb derailleurs. These work just as well as a road derrailuer but are a little heavier. I use a shimano XT rear derailleur on my touring bike and this can run with a 32 on the rear no problem.

Will this (11-30T) fit on a Cannondale Six Carbon 6?

Im currently running 12-23T and i'm having big troubles with hills. Will an 11-30T casette fit me?
Asked by: Twitchel
Depends on length of your chain- probably need a new one and your rear dérailleur though that should be ok. 30 is a bit excessive unless you're touring with big bags- a 27 should do the job!

Would this cassette be OK with a 105 9 speed circa 2005? Was going to also purchase a HG 73 9 speed chain to go with the cassette, is this combo OK? Thanks
Asked by: Patalawi

11-32 on sora rear derailleur?

Will this be compatible on my Giant Defy 2 running 9-speed sora 3400 rear derailleur or will I need to also upgrade to a long cage derailleur and new chain?
Asked by: BarneyF
I can confirm that due to the size of the cassette you will need to have a long cage rear dérailleur for it to work and not foul on the cassette. I hope this helps.

will this cassette fit a 2011 Kona Honky Tonk?

It has 11-25 9 speed cassette, but I'd like a lower ratio for hills. Would 11-28 or 11-30 fit, if they are avaliable? would I need to change anything else on the bike?
Asked by: DaveP150
Fitting an 11-28 tooth cassette should not cause any issues however an extra link in the chain may be required. For up to a 30 tooth rear sprocket, you may find that you need to replace the rear derailleur also.
