Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great shifting for price The trickle-down effect of shimano products means the shifting is at the very least on par with 105 5700's. Nice finish and quality materials. Weight savings from higher level products is minimal, and anything more on a wet-weather/winter trainer is probably a poor investment.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Worked perfectly I have discovered that Tiagra RD4700 derailleurs have the same actuation ratio as old 9 speed (pre 2000) Campagnolo derailleurs. Successfully married this up to an old style (pre2000) set of Campagnolo shifters and a Campagnolo 9 speed cassette. Works a treat. As far as Wiggle is concerned very well priced and an excellent service.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is an ordinary day in life. İ bought this for replacing my 4600 read shifer. It was old and not performing well. I have full tiagra 4600 set inc, hg500 rear cassette (11-28)(4700 also uses hg500) So after initial setup i noticed, whatever i do for adjusting th thing shifer misses 1 disc; regardless of adjustment. Up or down but cant perform in whole cassette. I bought a 4600 shifer and problem is solved. I also researched this thing and noticed people also had the same problem. Lesson learned. Just buy series specific gear. In this day easy to reach any information, but not the knowledge...

Cassette size

I'm upgrading to the new tiagra groupset and I'm unsure what the maximum size teeth I can have on the cassette with the SS short cage rear dérailleur. I'm aware that short cage rear dérailleurs are normally a maximum of 28 teeth on the largest cassette sprocket but from the description it sounds like this one will go up to 30 teeth in the short cage version. I want to confirm whether it still is the usual 28 teeth or whether in fact it's actually 30. Thanks.

Apologies for the prior confusion, the short cage is suitable for a maximum 28t cassette. The medium cage will be suitable for a maximum 32t cassette.

Cassette compatibility

Hi, would the Ultegra 6700 12-30 cassette be compatible with the short cage Tiagra 4700 rear derailleur. The product information suggests that the mech is capable of taking a 30t sprocket.

Compatible with old 105 shifters

Hi, Would this be compatible with the old 105 groupset. I have 10 speed shifters etc. but need a replacement rear derailleur and wondered if this would work?

12-30 compatibility

Hi, My current setup is 53-39 and 11-28, but I'm thinking about swapping the cassette with an Ultegra 12-30. Can this short cage derailleur handle the slightly higher ratio of the 12-30 cassette?

compatability with old 105 shifters

I have the same question as a previous user - I have old (4 years) 105 shifters and need a new derailleur. I want to downgrade to tiagra (it's only my commuting bike now) - but I see previous wiggle response that this 4700 is not compatible with old 105 10-speed. I don't understand this? Why are the 2 not compatible - and is there a tiagra derailleur which would work for my needs?
