Great Pedals
I bought these pedals for commuting after I saw them being recommended in forums. I've had them for a month now and I'm really happy with them. This being my first pair of clipless pedals I was worried that I might fall if I forget to unclip but this wasn't an issue. The pedals have great safety features and they automatically unclip if you're about to fall. They are easy to engage and they've got float which makes them better for your knees. Other reviewers have said that they're too easy to unclip - so far it's never happened to me accidentally and I can't see this happening really. All in all I'm very pleased with them - one minor complain only about the cleats. I wear them with mavic mountain shoes and despite my efforts they seem to deny to stay put in the position i've screwed them - they rotate to the other (left or right) side after a few rides which means that the heel of my shoe touches the pedal crank. Not sure if the problem is related to the size and the mounting of the cleats or if this is a common problem with cleats tho?
All in all quite happy with them,

Excellent, never had a knee issue since I got them
Got my first set of these 10 years ago after serious knee problems from Shimano Cleats. Now have them on my tourer, commute and Sportive bike and never had a problem with my knee again. the last well as long as you re inject the internal grease every few months.

Looks good but set up precarious and unreliable
I bought these pedals and they look good.
The entry mechanism is comfortable, but the cleats need to be installed accurately and the hex screws have flatter heads than other cleat screws. Care needs to be taken not to exceed recommended torque setting on cleat bolt or the hex will round off making readjustment or removing cleat impossible. Whilst there is plenty of float and most riders will not find entry or exit unintuitive, they are not any more comfortable than CB candy 2s or 3s which appear more robust. I tried the SP Fs hoping that they would be an upgrade on previous CB C2s. I have had knee pain with the SP Fs which is meant to be unusual as the float should prevent this but setting cleat angle on shoe is imperative to comfortable riding. Problems with tightening hex bolt on long ride makes you feel vulnerable when you are a long way from home; a problem never encountered with the CB C2. I have bought another pair of candys tonight and will be reinstalling them if I can get the SP cleats off my shoes.

Floaty MTB pedals
I've used speedplay for years and like the float available on both the road and these off-road pedals.
Cleats fit the standard off-road shoes like SPDs, although you need a different twisting action to get in and out. You can only heel out to release and not heel in (as for X pedals). Mud clearance is good enough - it always seems to engage no matter what crud is on the shoes.
This cro-mo version is cheaper but surprisingly heavier than the stainless or ti versions. Unless budget is tight I would opt for the stainless.

excellent
bit pricey but suits me,easy to clip in and out using either side, fitted to my road bikee allows me to walk in shoes as clips are recessed

Quick to Release
These are easy to get into and out of.
They allow enough movement that my knees feel good even after a 30 mile ride.
The most important thing for me was the release time, fast than SPD's and Look style.

Ideal off-road Speedplays
Love my roadie Speedplays for their 15 degrees of float (I walk like a duck, so most pedals (commonly with 6 degrees of float) cause me knee pain, so when I found these off-road Speedplays, I bought them straight away and put them on my cyclo-cross bike!
Really easy to clip in and out, shed mud well, recessed in your shoe so easy to walk in when the going gets tough, highly recommended for off-roaders who like to be clipped in.

Awful instructions and missing parts
I got these pedals and after 1 week of searching google, you tube, and the rubbish instructions have been unable to figure out how these cleats attach to shoe!!! there must be a part missing or you need to use parts of the old SPD fitting

Best clips on the market
Great pedals, lots of movement for my dodgy knees. Need greasing through end which is only down side, not sealed, have to buy a syringe.

Nice and simple
Great clip on pedals as they are small and simple - my foot comes out quickly whenever needed

My other half thinks these are great!
My wife was really struggling with getting out of shimano MTB M520 pedals even on slackest spring setting,so much so it was really knocking her confidence (not to mention two bruising "no release" falls). A quick search online and these pedals were recommended by may for ease of release. Well, they did the trick, confidence back, no resistance to release as no spring tension to overcome (like unscrewing a loose jar lid), one happy cylclist! Bit pricey though for pedals and cleats but worth it.

Great concept. Poor design.
I bought the pedals because i have problem clipping in and out of traditional pedals. The lack of float on SPD has gave me problems with my knees as well.
The Frogs do very well in this 2 areas. Clipping is painless and simple. Just slot the cleat in and press down. Unclipping is a simple matter of rotating your feet to the sides.
2 big issues with this pedal. It is not sealed. You will need to put in new grease regularly if you ride in bad weather. As much as once a month or more if you want to maintain the bearings in good condition. You can do that by using a syringe filled with grease and filling the port until new grease comes out from the spindle portion.
The 2nd issue is quite major. My pedal has cracked after 3 months of use. I use the pedal for road use only on my fixed gear. So i have not bashed through jungle trails on it. I have fallen off my bike but that's all. It was not ran over by a car before.
So now when i replace the grease, the new grease leaks out from the cracks. The rebuilt kit is way too expensive and it cost almost the same price as a brand new kit.

easy in easy out
I bought these as I am a big fan of the speed play zero cleats on my road bike but wanted the "walkability" of recessed cleats. Also I find I am a bit prone to unclipping comedy moments when struggling off road on my MTB.
The product delivers on all fronts. Easy to install the cleats onto the shoe- I do recommend the use of the additional cantilever bar but the benefit seems only marginal.
Clipping in is simple though not such a positive click on engagement as you might be used to. Unclipping is smooth and panic free. I was afraid that random unclipping might occur in general use and out of the saddle efforts, but that simply hasn't happened.
They are good to walk in too.
In fact I am now persuading my wife (not at all keen on cleats) to give these a go. I can't imagine what could go wrong!
A great product

Easy to use
As the title says, the best feature of these are how easy it is to get in and out of.

Excellent
I use these for commuting on a hybrid and think they are brilliant

if you have bad knees, this is the pedal for you
I have very delicate knees and Speedplay are the ONLY pedals I can use without pain. on my MTB, these Frogs are great. They take a little getting used to because it feels like the shoe will slip right off....but it won't. Very easy on the knees and easy to set up. If I DID NOT have knee problems, I would probably find these pedals a little "sloppy" and go for a Time Atac instead (which also are pretty knee friendly, but not to the same extent as these). On the road, I use Speedplay Light Action and before that, the Speedplay X-1s. For those of you with weak knees....trust me, this is the only way!

Brilliant
These offer a great alternative to the Shimano system.
These pedals are so easy to get in and out of as they require you to slide in rather than clip in under tension.
Indestructible they will last forever, the cleats are light, the pedals are low maintenance. What else could you want?

Great pedals
I went from Crank Brothers Egg Beater pedals to the Speedplay Frog's last year. They are light and easy to engage and disengage from. The design is very simple and remains mud free on rides since there is very little for the mud to cling on to. The clip system takes some getting used to since there is very little 'feel' to the pedal, clipping in can be done by pushing straight down and engaging the spring for the satisfying clunk of SPD or you can move your foot inwards using the resistance free clip system to simply slide in. This has the benefit of reducing wear on the cleats and pedals and unclipping is as simple as rotating your ankle outwards, there is no resistance so you simply become free from the pedals. I love this pedal but again I think it takes some getting used to if you're used to the clunky feel of traditional SPD style pedals.

Easy to use, good float
Great buy, I'm very pleased with them - used for the commute to work on my road bike. They are very easy to clip into. Unclipping is also very easy and there is no tension to overcome in the process. It is quite easy to set them up with lots of float in either direction. Contact area is quite small, so I'm not so sure how comfortable they would be for longer road rides >2hrs.

Good, but with restrictions
The pedal is very strong and simple (even more than the road model). If you like a pedal that gives a really tough engagement, you will love this one. Although Speedplay claims to make low pressure pedals, in fact they are no low pressure at all. On the contrary, to desengage the pedal demands a very energetic movement, otherwise you'll be on the ground (with the road model the story is the same).

Beautiful float, terrible quality
I found quality problems with both cleats and pedals:
The pedal innards disintegrated after a year and 6000 miles despite regular greasing, but to be fair a severe winter and masses of salt on the roads may have corroded most pedals that winter
The problem that really makes Frog II worth avoiding is that the cleat hinges on a flimsy piece of silicone rubber which tore after six months or so. You can't buy this tiny, removable piece of silicone separately so you are forced to buy a new pair of replacement cleats for over thirty quid
Just not worth the money

Speedplay Frog Chrome-Moly Pedals
Staight out of the box the pedals feel well bult and solid, the bearings are buttery smooth and the pedal body feels very robust.
Setting them up is much more involving than with a regular SPD pedal, it's essential to find your inner limit and work outward from that, it took me 3 rides and 4 tinkering sessions to get them feeling the way I need a pedal to feel.
Clipping in is less intuitive than with other pedals and the feedback is much less of an audible click but this is soon overcome with practice. Clipping out can be done by mistake but only happens rarely and is becoming less frequent with use.
I use mine on a road bike but would definitely not use them for off-road mouintain biking, clipping in is just too involving.

much needed purchase
These pedals where easy to install. Didn't take long to feel comfortable with these cleats and I found them very easy to use. Good amount of float. Happy with these and I would recommend...

croakcroak
Good pedal, love the float.. the cleats seem to be wearing quite fast:( .. not sure at the moment..
the grease port is great, its a wonderful thing not having creaky pedals..
be aware not all shoes will accept the cleat, its bigger than an spd or time..

Why aren't all pedals like this?
I bought these for my commuter bike so haven't used them offroad so cannot comment on mud clearing etc. That said, these are so much better than the SPD pedals I used before. They are easier to clip in and out; lighter; much more knee-friendly; very cleverly designed; and great quality. The only issue I had was that the fitting bolts, which they insist you use, are slightly too long but 5 minutes of modification sorted it. Replacement cleats are expensive though.

Great starter clip in
This is my first set of clip ins and I couldn't be more happy. They installed easily, and they are super simple to get in and out of. I have knee issues and they do not put any torque on my knees getting in or out. I look forward to upgrading to the nicer ones as I get better.

Worst buy ever !
After trying these pedals twice my old XT is mounted again and this is without a doubt one of my worst buys ever.
They do not function at all with just a little bit of dirt/mud.
These pedals are not at all suited for mountainbike !
22 June 2009
superb product
These pedals are the best i have ever bought they have stopped my knees from hurting when i ride as they have a great amount of free float. They are easy to enter and release for bigginers and pro's alike.
The price is very resonable for the quality of the product, the only critisism i would have with the ones i have went rough in two months so i stripped them which was easy and cleaned them, re-greased and off we go they are super smooth now so feedback to manufacturer would be dont be tight with the grease or it could ruin such a great product.

Speedplay Frogs = 2 thumbs up!
These things are a revolution for me, or a revelation for me, whichever you prefer. They are the easiest things to get into, straightforward to get out of, and very comfortable to use. I had been using Ritchey knockoff SPD pedals for over 15 years. When I first got them, going to clipless was a huge thing over toe clips and cleats. I never bothered to look at new technology. But now I'm over 40 and my knees were aching after rides. A friend suggested Speedplay and I was sceptical but read a number of online reviews. The Frogs seemed perfectly suited for my needs - I figured it would be a long time before the biggest limiting factor in my rides was going to be the weight difference between the Frogs and some of the flashier Speedplay models. I did my online searching and even though I live in the US, Wiggle offered me the best deal. Their website was easy to navigate. Their service and shipping was efficient and fast. I was so pleased, I went back aftger I got my pedals and ordered a pair of Mt. Bike shoes (they work well with the Frogs).

Speedplay Pedals
Having suffered knee issues for the most of my life, speedplay pedals have been the answer to my cycling needs. I have used Look and Time on my road bikes but neither was the solution for me. From the first time I used Speedplay X5 on my road bike my problems were over. When I purchase a mountain bike I immediately bought the frogs and they are perfect. Speedplay the only way to go.
