On those days when the weather is cold, with the chance of rain you want to know you will have the finest protection available as you head out riding. To this end Sportful's design team set out to engineer the ultimate all-weather jacket: It had to offer excellent warmth and be highly breathable for long-ride comfort.

The fit needed to be perfect, none of your precious energy battling against the excess fabric in the wind. It also had to offer excellent versatility for year-round use and finally be fully waterproof for when the heavens open. The end result is this, the Fiandre Extreme NeoShell Short Sleeve Jacket, the ultimate all-weather short sleeve jacket - supplied with matching arm warmers for fabulous all season versatility.

The extreme performance and versatility of this jacket comes from the combination of the exclusive mid-weight NeoShell® fabric construction and the supplied Polartec® NeoShell® arm warmers - NeoShell® offers you total windproofness, high waterproofness, unrivalled breathability and a super elastic fit.

Sportful also seal all seams so that water ingress is stopped completely. This combination of waterproofness, windproofness and breathability will see you remain comfortable at all intensity levels from base mile munching to high tempo chain gang rides. On mild days it can be worn with a standard base layer minus the arm warmers, regulating your temperature nicely even at higher intensities. For colder or wetter conditions simply add a thermal layer and the supplied arm warmers for the very best protection from the elements.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great technical jacket for bad,cold weather Sportful use Polartec Alpha fabric on this jacket, now starting to appear on other brands. The result is a jacket which ships perspiration excellently and has a high degree of rain resistance. It maintains body warmth well . On a recent 85k sportive at around zero to minus one, I was snowed and rained on and arrived back dry and in one piece. (My merino inner gloves and Windstopper outer gloves and thick winter bibshorts did less well at keeping me warm). In heavy showers for 20 minutes or so, with adequate time for the water to soak through afterwards if tit could, I have also remained dry. It's not a perfect jacket. The fabric is less stretchable than the best Gore Windstopper fabrics, so although the fit is almost as close as a jersey it's not race tight. The arm warmers are (because of lack of stretch) not easy to get on. It's so good at shedding excess heat, it takes a few minutes more to get warm from a cold start than other jackets. These turn out to be minor quibbles, since whether climbing a consistent 8% or descending at 70k in the cold (in Southern England, not the Alps) I don't find myself making any adjustments to zips or wishing I had a gilet with me. I never find my base layer soaked with rain or perspiration (a great way of getting miserably cold). It battles through the snow, but is fine if the termperature crosses above ten degrees. It's March now and I dare say I'll be wearing it daily into April. You just put it on and ride. I wear this with a long sleeve merino base in cold weather, a string vest merino base in cool weather and no jersey, gilet or rainproof . So,

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poor Q.C This jacket performs well. Unfortunately there is a problem with the rear pockets coming un-taped. I am now on my fourth jacket and each one has failed on the first ride. The latest one arrived yesterday and upon reaching home i emptied the pockets of phone, tube etc and found yet again the three seperate pockets have failed at the seams and become one large pocket. Really disappointed as i want to like the jacket but its not even worth half the asking price if it falls apart like this.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Road CC gave it a good review so I won't go into too much detail The fit was good although not as good as the other two sportful garments I own a pista shortsleeve jersey and a long sleev eno rain fiandre top. Reason being is the jacket material is slightly less flexible. The arm warmers are a little tight to get past my wrists but once on they fit fine. The jacket is similar in that it is a bit tight around the shoulder when putting it on but once on it was fine. When zipped up it was little crumpled across the chest. Frankly considering I don't look like the advertised cyclist I have been amazed so far that all my sportful gear fits perfectly I consider the NeoShell to still be a good if not excellent fit. Wore the jacket today for the first time and it was raining steadily if not horrendously. When I got to my destimation about 11km away and prepared to get change the outside of the jacket felt pretty wet but the material was clearly doing it's thing as the water was clinging to the outside of the jacket, a quick shake and a few minutes later it was dry on the outside, no water had visibly penetrated the inside. One thing I did notice was that the top of the arm warmers and the bottom of the sleeves of the jacket appeared wet but I think that was where I disrobed and had to do a bit of inside out thing. I stood in front of the mirror and my merino short sleeve base layer was a little wet from sweat but not overly so, within a few minutes of hanging up the base layer felt bone dry which was quite surprising. I am not certain the temperature I was riding at but 45 minutes after I arrived I had washed and dressed and was in the car to head to work and the temperature read 5c, I would imagine most of my route was that or less. I have been off the bike for a week so I cannot say I was putting in 100% effort all the way but I certainly wasn't taking it easy. Only once did it enter my head that I was overheating and I considered unzipping but I held fast and the sensation soon passed. I am not sure how well I could cope with this set up in 10c or more, only time will tell but I am impressed so far. I would point out that i consider myselfe to run super hot so I rarely have trouble wiht the cold but do struggle with the heat and sweat. So after one ride I am impressed.

Arm Warmer Sizing

Does the sizing of the arm warmers change with the size of the jersey? I take a large jersey but a small arm warmer in Sportful's usual sizing.
