Every bit as good as Rival
Have Rival on my road bike. Decided to go with Apex for a cross bike I was building and have been completely happy with it. Smooth and reliable shifting.

Working well. No problems with this derailleur
I had to replace deraillleur damaged during the fall. I got the same as was installed in the bike as I had no problems with it and it was working perferctly. The new one runs smoothly and is a great value for the money!

If you don't need the wi fli cassettes eg 28/32 largest sprockets then definitely change to a short cage.the gear changes are much snappier and tighter allround.

Excellent and surprising
My wife has a 12-32 on each of her two posh bikes, and has done over 6,000 km this year so far, including Ronde van Vlaanderen - I am amazed at the shifting quality of this gear - quite insensitive to exact cable adjustment and dead reliable. On a par with my Campy Record?
However one jocket wheel seized after not much riding, but replaced with a Tacx alternative. Cheap enough to have a spare around, though not needed so far.

Great for climbing without going compact
I found this to be an excellent compromise for lowering gearing without having to replace crank with a compact to get up relentless steep hills in Peak District. Certainly the cheaper option.
Lovely engineered product - of quality comparable to SRAM Rival or Force. Movement is indexed perfectly.

Sram' alternative to a triple
With more rides planned that included long and in places steep gradients I wanted a little more range than the short cage offers (12-28). By changing to the medium cage it supports (11-32), in practice this meant only one extra gear as the second on the cassette was 28, but what a difference, not being the best climber it meant that I could rotate between seated and standing and climb at my own pace without over cooking. I ordered this on the Friday evening and arrive on the Monday, very prompt delivery by wiggle.

Have a SRAM Force set up on my road bike but put an Apex derailleur on my cross bike.
Precise actuation and so far very reliable but not had chance to use it in a competitive situation yet.
Easy set up and nice gloss black finish.
Based on experience to date I would recommend

Just as good as APEX - just a little heavier
I smashed a nice, carbon SRAM Force derailleur when I picked up a stick while riding off-road. Being poor, I bought this as a replacement to get me going until I could afford a Force replacement. However, it shifts just as well as is made to the same high standard. I believe that the only different is weight. It's also black instead of shiny silver. Who cares?

Beat any Hill with this !
As a part of Sram's Excellent and most welcome Apex / Climbers kit . This is another great piece of kit made by SRAM . I purchased the Sram climbers kit and this is part of that . Paired with the 11-32 Cassette , this helps you get up some of the Steepest and most evil climbs out there . Took a bike equipped with Apex to Co Durham / Stanhope area where the Climbs are Savage , lots of 20+ % climbs and they go on for ages . Without Apex I would never have made it up some of the Steepest sections and would have suffered like a dog .
Its not the lightest nor does it look Bling . But that's not the point , its cheap , well made for the price and for what it does is Excellent .
Going somewhere Steep on your Bike , Apex 11-32 is the way forward . Trust me your legs and lungs will thank you.

SRAM APAEX rear 10 speed
Good value for the money, for the price also lightweight and able to cope with 32 blades

I bought this to be able to use lower gears as I live in the mountains. It did what I wanted.

I have a Giant Defy Composite 2 2013 bike with SRAM APEX. I'm thinking of getting the 11-32t cassette. I'm not sure I already have the mid (wifly) or short cage version. How can I tell the difference, what are the dimensions?
My gruppo is sram red compact with an 11-26 block. I want to experiment with a greater range of block for some alpine riding. If I use 11-34 and an APex rear derailleur should I use the short or mid cage version and which chain and what length is suitable.

Yes you can use the Apex rear mech and use a larger 11-34 cassette. These parts are compatible with SRAM red parts so this shouldn't be an issue. You will need at least a Medium cage I think for this cassette and chainset. Any SRAM 10 speed chain should be fine but I couldn't tell you what chain length is required.

Unfortunately not, the problem with this setup is the rear derailleur, SRAM derailleurs use a 1:1 ratio cable pull which is not compatible with Shimano gear levers. You would need to change your gear levers also to make sure that your components were compatible
