Fully sealed gear cables
"You will be hard pushed to find the old Gore Professional fully sealed cables anywhere in the world or any thing that is as close to them as these Transfil. These are well made, just as durable, easy to fit but 100% cheaper than the old Gores' ! only down side is the cheap orrible silver cable ferrules ...which if you love the look of your bike as much as it rides this is one important factor !
Other than that these are simply ACE !"

Good, cheaper replacement for Gore RideOns
I got these to replace the Gore RideOns I had on my Orbea Alma. They are easy to install while being a third of the price with the same result. I've only put around 300km on them so far, but they seem solid.

As good as GoreTex cables but cheaper
Mudlovers are very similar to Goretex cables costing more than double and perform just as well. Like all sealed cables I've tried you need to spend time and care fitting to ensure they last for as long as possible, particularly at the exposed ends. For example use a phillips screw driver to enlarge the PTFE sleeve end like a trumpet as this will help stop this getting into and jamming the gear changer. A good quality cable cutter like that from Park tools also helps.
Gear shifts are lighter and stay consistent for 1-2 years without maintenance in my experience before replacement is needed. have hydraulic breaks this mean zero maintenence cables, a good thing.
Overall not perfect but I wouldnt buy anything else now as value for money is excellent compared to the competition.

Early Days but appears to be good kit
I'm trying out this system as I'm regularly wallowing around in mud and puddles on my local hill and my shifting was really sticky due to ingress of water etc. Good idea to read the instructions carefully to make sure the liner is fitted the correct way round as it has a flattened end which goes at the control end - otherwise it's fairly straightforward to fit although the outers are really hard and rugged and need a good set of cable cutters to cut cleanly. I'm left with a single short section of white translucent liner ( different to the cable liner) which I'm not sure what to do with First impressions are that this set makes a big difference to good shifting but the recent snow has prevented me from testing it over a period of time in dirty conditions, hence only 4 stars for the present

worth the money
These so far are as good as the Gore sealed, the only difference is there is no coating on the cables (this soon wore out on the gore) and no consetena seals for the ends.

Ok a little basic, but i guess a lot cheaper than SRAM Flak Jackets although you will have to replace them around twice as often, personally Id spend a little more initially to save having spend a lot more and have to do the job twice within the same time frame.

winter filth protection
One of a few products which will keep your biki shifting through the winter months if you have any exposed cable routing. It uses a liner which sleves the brake cable for its entire run so even where you would have cable stops and exposed cable, the liner still covers the moving cable. Similar to Gore tex cables and Goodrich, but cheaper, its a good upgrade for bikes reqularly ridden in the wet and mud if you dont want to keep replacing inners.
I have found that the cables themselves stretch a bit in the first few rides which means a bit of adjustment ffrom new, but they soon settle to give good dependable shifts.

Replace the alloy!
"These are a great product and once installed are smooth and need zero maintenance. I've used brake and gear versions on two bikes for about five years.
However... I would definitely not use the shiny alloy 'ends' which are used at each end of the outer cables - as they corrode really quickly and turn to white powder - even though they look fab when new - they are rubbish!
Mine also had some sort of electrolytic corrosion with the magnesium retainers on my carbon Klein and has damaged one or two quite badly - grrrr.
Grab a handful of the regular Shimano plastic outer cable ends and use those instead."

Not that mud loving!
A good concept for keeping the dirt out of your gear calbes but sadly floored. If set up correctly as per instructions these cables do give a good initial slick shift but...
The end of the inner cable out of the rear mech is exposed to the elements. Dirt soon works its way in and because of the teflon liner there's no way of getting the dirt back out!
I've had two sets of these now, the second I fitted a proprietry rubber boot over the exposed cable but sadly this only delayed the inevitable.
If you can't afford Gores best stick with standard cables and give them a routine clean & re-lube.

Good but not for all frames
Quality but I have a strange cable set up that goes under the bottom bracket so awkward to replace and still exposed to grime.

Jip Robotics
I ride all year round and every spring I always had to replace my cables. This product offers a simple solution to stopping mud and crud being able to ingress into you cables. By adding a coated liner along the length of your cable the only openings are at your levers and the mech. This stops the build up of excessive friction and thus keeps your gears moving smoothly all through winter.
Pro:
My friends have all changed to these cables and we have been running them for about two years now without any problems.
Con:
If I am being picky it would be nice if the metallic end caps were plastic.

OK but not fit and forget
Purchased these to replace my Avid Flak Jackets, when I bought them they were the cheaper option and it showed. My issue with these is the cheap inners, I had problems right from the start and eventually the inner chewed its way through the covering which then got tangled in the outer (there is a full length plastic covering that sits inside the outer).
I replaced this with a teflon coated inner and they performed better but still not the slick shifting I get with the Avids.

These are much better than unsealed cables, and I've tried plenty. My local trails are real drive train killers, so after 3 months I am pleasenty suprised by performance of these. It's a shame the rest of the drive train is not so reliable. It seems i've just moved the weakest link in the system (cables) on to something else (derailleurs).Come on bike industry we demand more reliable gear changing.

I love mud but not sure about these cables
Fitting was as easy as any other cable. Initially the cables worked perfectly then they seemed to suffer some sluggishness on changes 'up' especially near the smallest cogs on the rear cassette. I noticed that the instructions advised leaving a small section of the inner sleeve exposed at the rear derraileur but this has 'dissappeared'. It was probably jammed inside the end of the sleeve causing the sluggish change up. This has now cured itself and they're working correctly. I think these are not quite the complete solution to heavy mud and rain but they solve most of the problems.

Total Rubbish
I couldn't believe what a second rate imitation of the gore sealed cables these were. I fitted them and the shifting was worse than stock cable that came with the bike!
I had to remove them and throw them away as they made the bike unrideable and had to but another set of gore (which I alreasy had on another bike of mine).

Good protection
Good protection for your cables, up there with the flying snake version and if you prefer black cables the one to choose.

Not just for Mudlovers!
I spent some time wondering if I really needed a cable set that was sealed. For the past few year my mountain bike had been through cables at the rate of a couple of sets per year and it was getting annoying!
So - I took the plunge and I have been very satisfied with them since. The cables stay smooth in the wet and mud. There is very little maintenance once they have been fitted. Installation is a breeze!
All in all, a top product if you like surfing the slop.
